About

Playing in the Mud

Frequent canoe trips as a child on Mississinewa Lake in Indiana gave me my first exposure to clay rich soil. I can remember thinking then that I could make things with this rather goopy mud. Begging my Father to please let me fill a bag with it fell on deaf ears. A few years later I received one of those toy pottery wheels and made attempts to create something on it, but to no avail. I felt defeated. My interest began to wane.

Thirty plus years would pass before I would find that my attraction to mud was still burning inside. I decided to take a ceramics class at our local Art Center here in Battle Creek, MI. as a way to deal with the grief of my Mothers passing. It became more than therapy for me. I felt an immediate affinity to creating things with clay. For the first time in my life I felt that I had found what I was meant to do.

Now I'm in business doing what I love~ playing with mud! I hope you'll find a piece that touches your heart. My ceramic pieces are created with the mindset that they are to be used and enjoyed on a daily basis. May you live everyday surrounded by art and the love of those that create it.
