About

Originally from Austria I moved to Scotland over 20 years ago. I fell in love with the North and the landscape continues to inspire my work every day.

MY BACKGROUND

Originally from Austria, I came to Scotland in 1991 as an apprentice potter working for Lotte Glob in the Far North Pottery in Balnakeil. I previously attended the Keramikschule in Stoob and worked in pottery workshops in Austria & Greece. Inspired by the rugged landscape of the North, I started to develop my own style and opened a shop in Balnakeil Craft Village.

MY WORK

I live and work in Balnakeil Craft Village where I have a small workshop and gallery/shop where I sell my work as well as selling it online through my Etsy store.

Throughout the years I have held various workshops in ceramics and in silk painting and continue to do so for all ages and abilities. Paint a pot is one of the most popular workshops I run and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Each year I make the Cape Wrath Challenge cups as a keepsake for runners participating in the week long event in Durness. In the past I made the mugs and truffle bowls for Cocoa Mountain (a chocolatier in Balnakeil Craft Village). You can buy the truffle bowls on their website.

As well as ceramics & silk I also work with wool. I hand spin local fleeces and sometimes dye them naturally, for example, with onion skins. As well as in my own shop these can be bought in Gallery48 in Cromarty. I sell my work in a few other shops, my crochet soap dishes can be found online at nurturing-soul.com and my toothbrush holders are sold in Edinburgh at a store called HIPP. In addition to this a range of my wool bowls, teapots and mugs can be found in Drumbeg Stores.

MY ETSY STORY

I fell in love with the Highlands and have lived here for over 20 years and have had my business open for more than 10 years.

However, I only opened my Etsy store in the beginning of 2015. I had always been unsure of putting my work online, but with a lot of encouragement from my daughter I set up a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and finally an Etsy store - and I am so glad I did.

My ultimate goal is to earn a living through Etsy during quiet times in my shop here in Balnakeil Craft Village. The downside to living in such a beautifully remote area is that although the shop can be busy during the season (mainly in Summer) it is quite quiet at all other times. I also realise that unfortunately not everyone has the time to travel up to the far north, so it is nice to reach a wider audience by selling online.
