Announcement Please allow extra time for holiday shipping. I ship USPS Priority Mail and will ship your package promptly. In 2020 starting at Thanksgiving some packages took 3 weeks to arrive at their destination. I will keep track of your package's progress. If it hasn’t been delivered within 8 days I will put a trace on the package. Usually this gets the parcel moving again as last year there appeared to be sorting facility locations with bottlenecks. Thank you for your patience.

MUD Pi creates original decorative ceramic tiles and ceramic objects.
With a bachelor degree in architecture, an interest in clay and the purchase of our first fixer upper in need of a bathroom and a kitchen renovation, I developed a strong interest in tile design and tile production. In 1993 my husband and I began the handmade Tile Company, MUD Pi. The name, MUD Pi, is word play, MUD of the Earth, Pi of the mind. Our production tile studio (mudpi.com) creates made to order contemporary arts and crafts tiles from a series of original tile lines. They are designed for residential installations, including fireplace surrounds, kitchen back-splashes and bathrooms.
In 2008 we moved from Chicago to Columbus Ohio. MUD Pi became a solo endeavor. The MUD Pi etsy shop opened in 2010. This gave me an opportunity to experiment with new imagery, glazes and techniques. I have explored stand alone tile designs and worked on creating hand-built ceramic objects. In my MUD Pi Etsy shop you will find individual tiles, mounted gift tile trivets and murals as well as ceramic objects. Many of the designs explore nature/garden themes and their symbolism.
Each tile starts with a design and is created by first building a positive and than casting a mold. The clay is rolled into a slab and pressed into the mold. The tiles are hand trimmed and hand glazed with a paintbrush from many glazes that I mix in the studio. Layering a number of glazes creates the unique glaze colors and mottled surfaces. The tiles are fired to cone 6. The amount of handwork involved creates variations and each tile is unique.
Owner, Creator, Designer
Sole proprietor and creator of all that is MUD Pi. I have been making tiles since 1993. Over the past 7 years I have been making ceramic objects as well. All pieces are a labor of love.
Each listing is for a unique item and the image is of the actual piece available, unless noted otherwise.
Thank you for visiting.

Returns and exchange details
The image is of the actual tile or object available, I do my best to depict and describe the pieces accurately. Therefore, I do not exchange merchandise that reaches you in good condition. All items are made by hand and by the nature of the process have imperfections and variations, which adds to their charm.
If you are purchasing the tile as a gift that is to be sent directly to the recipient please notify me at checkout. A blank greeting card with a message of your choice will be included without a copy of the receipt. The items are wrapped in a new or recycled craft paper envelope with a string tie and a MUD Pi sticker.
If you are a local Columbus Ohio resident and you would like to arrange to pick up your items or have them delivered by me please contact me through my MUD Pi Etsy shop or send me an email at kmsartisan [!at] gmail.com and we can make arrangements.
