Self-taught and still Learning
I've been making jewelry since i was little. I know how cliche' and typical that sentence was, but it's the truth! I started out making those horrible macaroni necklaces, then progressed to the giant, pastel plastic beads (not much better, but still..). As I got older, through high school and terrible first jobs, I would always find the time to work on my jewelry.
From time to time I would hear about this relatively unknown (at the time) website called Etsy. This wonderful website where amazing, creative, interesting artists from around the world can buy and sell their handmade goods. I thought to myself, "why the hell not? Give it a go, and see what happens!". And so I did. I opened a shop called Cocoberry Creations, where i sold my paintings, magnets, and other accessories. I didn't sell my jewelry right away because it wasn't at a place I wanted it to be yet, and I hadn't quite figured out what kind of look I was going for. A few years later, after some hardcore decision- making, I opened a second shop for my jewelry, Mulberry Metalworks. I don't know why i keep naming my shops after berries, but oh well.
I started with a few smaller pieces that I sold, and got some good feedback. I was shocked that people were even looking at my items, let alone buying things!
It's been a little while now since I opened Mulberry Metalworks. I've participated in an art festival (which was a big deal for me!), and gained some artistic confidence.
My shop is always changing, expanding, and I hope that I am always growing and learning as an artist. I am lucky to come from a very creative family that supports and encourages me to follow my passions. Jewelry and the arts has always been a subject that fills my soul with joy. God willing I will be making things with it until I'm ancient, and my arthritic hands can't hold a torch and hammer anymore!
