About

The Owl, the Hare and the Human

On an apple wooded hill near a ‘Shire river sits the workshop of Murgatroyd & Bean.
Murgatroyd (the Owl) and Bean (the Hare) have known each other since they were but a chick and a leveret. At a young age they were apprenticed to the Applewood’s tailor, Meles-Meles the badger, from whom they learnt their stitch craft and where they became friends with the Human, Kathleen.

In their workshop they make all manner of stitched curiosities inspired by found objects, the surrounding landscape and tales whispered through the wood.
The work is identified by a strong sense of narrative and it’s use of colour and texture. Many of the materials used still bear the scars of previous lives which can shape the final piece in unexpected ways.
