About

My Story

Muse Silk Paintings was born out of a deep seeded desire to break free out of a creatively stifling situation. One day I discovered a silk painting class at a local junior college, and after that I was hooked! I fell head over heels in love with silk painting, from getting all wrapped up in drawing the resist lines to watching the paints spread across the silk in various hues. Couldn't get enough!

That's when it all clicked.

Hand painted silk scarves is a perfect venue where I could apply my creativity, fine art background and fashion industry experience all at once. I dabbled in silk painting for months on end, painting scarves for friends and family and even putting together a very rickety little set up on my rooftop deck to paint. With each scarf I painted, the more in love with it I fell. I finally did my first craft show and even won an award!

That was all the encouragement I needed to start my Etsy shop. Muse Silk Paintings opened it's virtual doors in May 2009 and with the support of my family, friends (and of course my imaginary Muselet helpers), it's been growing ever since.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my story and for visiting Muse Silk Paintings on Etsy. Each scarf here has been painted with loads of love, care, and enthusiasm. Can you feel it too? I hope you will find a special piece that inspires you to find your own inner "Fashion Muse" as well.

Welcome to MUSE Silk Paintings! All my silk pieces are created with water-based, non toxic paints on 100% silk fabrics, and have hand rolled edges. Any interesting motifs or pattern created by the splashed or spreading paints in the scarf should not be viewed as a defect, but rather as further authentication that you have, in fact, a completely original, hand painted silk painting. After they are dreamed up and painted (with love), they are washed with delicate soaps, lightly ironed, and hung up nicely in a smoke and pet free environment. It is there they wait to be united with their lucky owner :)

Additional policies and FAQs
Custom Orders: If you love a past design in my sold items section or any of my Muse Fan Page galleries, I will be happy to semi "re-create" it for you (although there are no templates so it will never be exactly the same). Also if you love a certain scarf in my store, but would rather it in a different color, I can do this as well. Please allow 4-5 weeks for delivery however.

Unfortunately at this time I am not accepting any "new design" custom requests as my schedule simply does not leave time at the moment. If you are interested in a custom order (different color or "semi-recreation" please send me a convo or email me directly at arscarves [!at] hotmail.com

Pricing: You may notice my prices vary considerably - even if it is on the same type of silk and size. Due to the labor intensive nature of the serti technique (drawing lines with colorless gutta), our prices are based on not only the type of silk and size, but heavily dependent on the amount of line work and detail of each piece as well. Although each piece is a special work of art, the more detail, the more "luxe"!

Thank you,
Angel
