Announcement   I'm very excited to introduce my new line of eco dyed botanical scarves. Each one is unique and beautiful. Not only can they be worn as a scarf or shawl but they can also be hung as a wall hanging when not in use. Gorgeous!

--50% Blowout Sale!!-- My work has taken me in another direction so all of my discontinued items are on sale. Coming soon.....more polymer clay jewelry designs!

Birdsong Designs features unique, fun, one-of-a-kind wearable art, including scarves, jewelry, and purses. All are lovingly hand-made with a modern bohemian flair Although a variety of materials and techniques are used, they all have my love for color and texture in common.

I started selling scarves on Etsy after my friends bought my first 40 scarf creations. Since then, I have explored learning new techniques using a variety of materials and have tested the reaction from my local customers. Because of their positive response, I expanded my offerings on Etsy to include my nuno and wet felted accessories, as well as beaded and polymer clay jewelry. Most recently I added my line of hand dyed silk scarves. Using Shibori and other dying techniques, I'm able to get the texture and color that appeals to me.

What an absolutely gorgeous scarf! The combination of vintage silk sari fabric and the nuno felting, the beautiful color combination, the craftsmanship - everything is perfect! Prompt delivery. I'm delighted with my purchase!

Absolutely beautiful scarf! Shipped and was delivered faster than any other Etsy product I've bought. The shop also included a thank you letter, which I thought was incredibly sweet. Great shop and will order again.

About

I've come full circle!

After spending 30 plus years in the corporate world, it took the great recession and getting laid off for me to realize what I wanted to do for my second career. It wasn't immediately apparent. I guess my automatic response was to go back and do what what was familiar and comfortable, so I started a consulting and coaching business. During my coaching training, I participated with other coaches in coaching circles to give us all more coaching experience. When in the coachee role, one of my personal goals was to start using the other side of my brain; the creative side. I especially wanted to do something in the fiber arts area. It's amazing how when you set a goal and focus attention on it, you reach that goal so much more quickly. It was always there. In fact, even though my college degree was in the business area, I took art classes for all of my electives. I remember one of the Art Professors thought I was an Art major since I was in that department so much. And yes, my interest then was also fiber arts. So I truly came full circle but had to reawaken that side of the brain.

I started to make a few scarves after a friend of mine spurred an idea. I love textiles, textures, and color and I found a way to put those items together into a scarf that I could wear and not be overwhelmed with the bulk of traditional scarves. When I wore a scarf to a local event, some of my friends expressed an interest in them also. I grabbed my fabrics and laces that I had been collecting and we had an impromptu design party. We had so much fun figuring out what each person wanted for their custom scarf. I walked away with an order for 12 scarves. Soon word spread and other friends were asking me about them. This is how I sold my first 40 scarves. As soon as I got an inventory built up, they were gone. I was having a blast. That's when I decided to start an Etsy shop and share my creations with the rest of the World.

My creative exploration continued into other areas of fiber arts and polymer clay and now my work incorporates many new techniques. In early 2015, I launched my Polymer Clay jewelry designs and felted women's accessories. And most recently, my line of hand dyed silk scarves was introduced. Shibori and other techniques enable me to get the texture and color that appeals to me. You never know what's next!

Thanks for hearing my story and visiting my shop.

I went from the corporate world to Textile and Polymer Clay Artist and I'm having the time of my life. I get so much joy out of creating items with my hands and heart but nothing compares to when someone loves one of my creations.
