About

I love putting things back together.

I first learned about mosaics and got the “bug” to break things apart and put them back together over ten years ago from Yakov and Angele Hanansen, who are the owners of the Unicorn Art Studio, Inc. in NYC. They are well known mosaic artists, whose personalities and talents inspired me to want to create beautiful pieces. One of the first and probably my favorite to date I created at their studio, which is my profile photo. I made some other larger works during this time including a coffee table with a mosaic top, which I gave as a wedding gift to dear friends. To date, they enjoy using it on their beautiful porch at their Poconos mountain home. We have shared many conversations, laughs, and our share of drinks around that table which has brought me immeasurable joy. The inspiration I discovered at Yakov and Angele's studio turned from a hobby to making the occasional commissioned piece to now putting the time in daily to work and create mosaics.

I do my work in the attic of my 1910 Victorian home I share with my Irish husband, 12-year-old boy/girl twins and our dog Frankie. I feel fortunate to be able to create from home, which allows me to work when I want and around my family life.

The materials I most often use include stained glass, tesserae, porcelain, and china. And, I like to use salvaged windows and vintage frames as substrates. I enjoy hunting for most of my materials at consignment shops, on the side of the road, and my mother's basement. I buy some of my glass from a glass studio in Ithaca, NY. I love being able to see the color of the glass in real life. I am most attracted to color, which is one of the reasons why I love stained glass so much and above all, I love the process of making mosaics. From the inception of an idea to sketching, breaking or cutting each piece by hand, adhering each hand-cut piece and finally grouting. In my opinion, the magic happens when you finally get to grout. It can transform your work from something good to something spectacular.

I live in a quaint village along the Erie Canal near the city of Rochester, NY, where I have worked and created for years up in my attic. I've been a part of the Etsy community since this summer and I am so happy to be here. Welcome!
