Seven Years of Sola!

Hi there - my name is Afton. This shop started as a way to improve the lives of myself and my family - I am a mom who lives with fibromyalgia, which makes things difficult at times. Being able to work for myself and keep myself busy has been a life-saver. I am an extremely goal motivated individual - when you work with me, you are working with a professional florist - you are my full-time job. I've been color-matching and creating custom pieces for seven years now - you can rest assured that your flowers will be created with care and expertise. I am always happy to work with new colors and use a mix of acrylic paint brands to put together my work.

In 2022, we moved a lot of the workshop into a building on the Main Street of our little community - I would be happy to meet iwth you in person or chaat on the phone to discuss your dream flowers! I am not able to work on bigger pieces as well - creating arbor decor and table decor,

My husband supports this business by staying home to take care of our 7 year old son - who is a little dino himself and a huge motivator for this business. He also helps me move things around and put together anything that I don't want to deal with. ;) (Shelving, christmas trees, etc. :D)

This shop is both my outlet and my hope and I hope that it reflects a little of what inspires me.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with ideas beyond what you see here! I love to try new things and LOVE all of the custom orders I've done! Typically I am booked about twelve weeks out, but don't hesitate to ask about sooner dates - I am often able to sneak orders in by adjusting my schedule!

And, in case you are wondering, the shop name is a representation of both where I grew up (Montana), recurring dreams about dinosaurs, and my BIG dreams. :)

Hello! This business began as just a simple need to create and make something that someone wanted and needed. I began by creating the paper flowers that I used at my wedding and from there, things have grown!

I strongly believe in good communication and human kindness. I promise you that I want you to be happy with your choice to let me be a small part of your wedding. I do my very best to create what you are envisioning and hope you will do your best to give me clear instructions and ideas.

I absolutely love that this is where my life has brought me and I hope to continue in this vein for years to come!

I am a single human being who works to create these items! This is my full-time professional job -YOU are my full-time job. :) I also am a stay-at-home mom and love that this allows me to be with my family! Baby Dinosaur is my inspiration and he absolutely loves that he gets to see all of your flowers when his mama allows him to invade her studio! (Don't worry, little dinosaurs can't reach your items! I have a strict "NO HANDLING BY DINOSAURS" policy in place).

For weddings, I make boutonnieres, corsages, bouquets, flowerballs, centerpiece flowers, hair accessories, flower chandeliers, and occasional custom requests.

When you book me, you are booking one person who will dedicate their attention to what you want your flowers to be. (My husband does occasionally cut paper for me or help in other small ways, but I am the one who will put your flowers together!)

As most of what I use right now is handmade, excluding some dried floral items, you are getting a unique item every time! As such, I may not be able to recreate your inspiration pictures exactly, but will do my best to get the same feel and beauty that they have.

Right now, we accept all the payments that Etsy allows.

For custom orders:
50% of your total is due in order to book a wedding package and is non-refundable. Once a deposit is put down, I do typically order items fairly quickly so that I can begin your order as soon as my schedule allows. The other 50% plus shipping is due once I complete your order and prior to shipping.

Shipping

I ship UPS with your items fully insured and tracked. Items usually ship at least three weeks prior to your event, if possible. Please ask me about scheduling and availability!

In the event that your items are damaged during shipment, please let me know as soon as possible and I will help you with any claims! I cannot control what happens to your package once it leaves my care, but I will do what I can to make sure you are taken care of if any issues arise!

Unfortunately, I cannot accept returns at this time. If there is something wrong with your order, please contact me within 7 days and i will help remedy the issue.

We offer limited international shipping - please check with us for a quote!

If an item is needed within a certain timeframe, please make sure that I am aware of this! Shipping can be upgraded at the expense of the buyer.

If items are marked "delivered" but you have not received them, please check with your neighbors and local usps. If that does not turn up your package, a stolen mail claim should be filed with your local police department - mail theft is taken very seriously.

Additional policies and FAQs

Revision Policy: I want you to be happy with your purchase. I realize that weddings are very personal and being able to customize your flowers is a huge deal. :) I typically send pictures of custom orders before the handle is wrapped so that any tweaks can easily be made - I am able to make a few small revisions to help increase the personal aspect of your flowers and make them yours. However, due to time constraints, there are times that I am not able to do much customization - I will do my best to work with you, but if more than 1 revision is requested after I've informed you about my time constraints, there may be a $10 fee for future revisions or I may not be able to complete your order. Please understand - I do my absolute best to work with you and if I do not think that I can create what you want in the timeframe that I have, I do my best to let you know. I appreciate all of my wonderful brides - seriously - everyone has been so lovely. :)

Custom orders are very much welcome and appreciated! Custom orders require a 50% deposit, the balance upon completion. We cannot refund for custom orders- we do our very best to send accurate descriptions, information, and pictures. Shipping is not included in your quote unless requested.

My process works like this. I go through orders by date, typically, unless a bride has specifically asked to have hers done earlier, and I am able to accommodate. I try my very best to get to your orders as quickly as possible, please bear with me! If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to ask me! I will keep you updated as to where I am in my schedule and about when I will be starting your order.
Just before I am ready to start your order, i will let you know and we can finalize details. I appreciate being informed of changes as soon as you know something is changing, but minor changes to numbers or items are typically not a problem, as long as I am aware before I begin. I want you to be happy with your items! Once I am working on your order, I typically try to focus on one at a time, but if your order requires some down time, I may start another order. However, once I have all the flowers made, i like to focus on one order as I finish up - you will have my full attention! :) I typically send pictures of items before wrapping them - this way if there are any changes that need to be made, I can easily do that and you can confirm that you are happy with how things look! (Please be aware that pictures before wrapping may look a little looser or sloppier than the ending item will! I try my best to keep things together so you can get a good idea of what it's going to look like, but gravity is always messing with me. ;) )

I typically give myself 5-10 days to complete an order - usually I over-estimate to make sure I have plenty of time. I have been completely booked since February 2016 - please try to give me as much time as possible to get you into my schedule. Unfortunately, what I do takes a lot of time and patience.

If you're considering booking me and live in the area, you are welcome to set up a consultation with me! I don't do much traveling right now, but you are welcome to visit my "office" and discuss your ideas for your wedding. I typically don't have many finished items on-hand (I haven't had time to make extra!) but you are welcome to look at what i do have and what I am working on.

Please be patient with me. I strive to make sure I am understanding everything you tell me - I very much appreciate good communication! If I repeat something to you, it may be that I am making sure that I'm understanding exactly what you want. :) I have had the privilege of working with some amazing ladies this year, and I hope you'll give us a chance to work with you! Frequently asked questions

What are sola flowers made from?

Sola flowers are made from a marshy plant that grows in Asia - the best comparison would be balsa wood. These are NOT a hardwood product - they are very lightweight, moldable when wet (but can be smushed when wet also!), and beautiful. Each flower is handmade by a crafter, so each is a unique work of art! As such, each flower will vary slightly in appearance - some may have bark spots from being a tree (these are minimal, unless they are a bark flower!) and some may be shaped differently.

Are the flowers fragile?

Yes. I take great care in handling and shipping to keep your flowers safe and beautiful. Natural colored flowers have a lot more give and are less fragile. Typically, the darker the color, the more fragile the flower may become. The dye changes the texture slightly. They are sturdier than you might think, however! If you have any questions at all or would like to order sample flowers to make sure sola flowers are right for your wedding, please don't hesitate to contact me! (Dyed samples have an extra fee.)

A few of my flowers broke during shipping, but my order is otherwise wonderful. What can we do?

First - please let me know! :) I'm always trying to better myself and I appreciate when people contact me via messaging first so that I can help! Larger orders will come with a touch up kit. If the edges of the flower are just chipped, i recommend cutting carefully with a scissors to even out the breakage and a tiny bit of paint in a similar shade (mix with water!) will cover it right up. My goal is always to get your flowers to you in excellent condition, but due to the fragile nature there are sometimes casualties. :) I am always happy to help troubleshoot and appreciate the opportunity to do so!

What colors are available?

I custom dye each order and can typically get pretty close to most colors. Due to viewing from different screens, colors may vary slightly. As each batch of flowers is custom dyed, shades may vary slightly.

Do you send pictures of items as you put them together?

Yes. Most custom orders will get at least a few pictures - often during different stages of things being put together. I provide proofs free of charge - up to a certain point. Please don't abuse this policy - I want you to be happy with your items and I love showing you what you are getting. After 3 changes, proofs and changes will incur a $5+ charge. This policy is to help me keep things under control - obviously if something is not right with your order as I am working on it, I am going to fix it for you!

If your order is not custom, I do not send photos.

How do you ship these fragile items?

I use double wall boxes for most bouquet orders - especially those that are traveling a long ways. I will -always- recommend using priority shipping to get your items to you as quickly and with as little human touch as possible. Each box is packed as carefully as possible - in order to keep things from shifting around, I do have to pack things somewhat tightly, which may cause a little flattening. Babies breath will need to be fluffed after your order arrives - and in some cases I include extra, just in case. To give your bouquets the room they need to stretch out and prevent any flat spots, please remove them from all packaging as soon as possible and store them upright in an vase or jar until your event date.

What's included in your shipping quote?

I always recommend Priority shipping for the safety of your items. My quote for shipping will include a small buffer to make sure I have estimated weight and size correctly, cost for insurance and tracking if not Priority, and a small buffer for shipping materials - as I use heavy duty boxes to get your flowers to you safely, they cost almost $3 per box.

If you're concerned about shipping cost, please ask for a quote. Shipping will be added to your final invoice.

Sizing details

Currently, I measure by diameter and in inches. I typically have a 5 inch, 7 inch, and 9-10 inch size available for most styles. I am happy to send pictures to show each size if you'd like - I'm working on getting a listing up with sizing. :) I can also do custom sizes up to 12 inches - just message me to discuss!

What order do you do orders in?

How soon I will get to your order depends on a few different factors. If you are ordering a custom item, you likely have already spoken with me and I know the date you need your item by. I work through orders by date required/requested. If you order and do not let me know when you need it or have a certain date you'd like it by, I sneak it into my schedule where it will fit - this is why my processing times vary greatly. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have a question about my timeline - I do my best to accommodate every request.

Care instructions

When you receive your items, I recommend carefully unwrapping and removing each item from the box. Bouquets do best if stored upright in a vase/container to prevent any flat spots from occurring. I am happy to give tips on "fluffing" any flowers that may seem to be a little smushed from shipping! A little bit of water and gentle repositioning does wonders. :)
