About

From hobby to business

Shorty after Etsy opened its virtual doors, I heard the news. A chance to do what I love AND sell my creations all around the world! A dream was coming true! My mind was filled with ideas of everything I was going to create. But little did I know, I had yet to come to know the craft that has now taken over my world. One night I was browsing the web, searching for something crafty. Exactly what, who knows, but what I found was photos and information about this fairly new craft called needle felting. I have always been interested in sculpture but had struggled to find a medium that was a practical medium for me to work with, and one that I enjoyed working with. So the idea of "soft sculpture" intrigued me. I immediately signed up for a tutorial to learn about this craft. From the start I realized this craft was for me! So there it was, I had my craft! Fast forward to
May 13, 2008....my first day on Etsy!

To my somewhat surprise, orders started coming in! People, from all around, actually liked what I was creating! I was getting 5-star reviews. Reviews like "beautiful", "words can not describe how wonderful", "I love", "the felting is scrumptious", "very high workmanship", "terrific and wonderful"! Fast forward again, to 2010....

In 2010 I was having medical problems that had started to affect my work, so I ended up having to put my shop on an extended vacation for what turned out to be a 4 year vacation. In the summer of last year my medical problems were on their way to being fully gone and I was about to be back on track with life, and to having a better quality of life free from constant doctor and therapy appointments. And I knew, I needed Etsy back in my life! I also knew that I no longer wanted to see myself as just taking part in a hobby. I wanted my hobby to become a real legit business adventure. I decided to change my Etsy name from MyFavoriteShop to ArtCraftEshop (Artsy Crafty Shop) because my first love has really always been in the fine arts not crafts, so I wanted a name that would allow me the option of doing both arts and crafts. As of now I am still concentrating on the crafty side but hope to get back into the arty side of me soon!

Since I started my shop back up last year in September, I have felt that it is very important for me to establish some kind of style to my work and I can now say that I have found it! My style is for anyone who has a fun, quirky side, who does not see bold colors as only for kids, who is a little bit hippie, who also loves the colors, fabrics, decorative style of India. And someone who can find a purpose in owning something that doesn't "do" anything except make you happy :)
