My Grandpa's Wooden Toys are built for fun and made to last.

My name is John Caldwell and I live in a small fishing town on the Washington Coast with my wife of 50 years. I have always loved to work with wood since childhood.

When I retired I wanted to find something to do that would be fun and have a passion for. Remembering the toys I made for my children when they we’re young, I decided to make wooden toys. In 2012 I started with 8 different toys to sell at a local Christmas Bazaar. It was that sale that made me realize that there was indeed a market for wooden toys. I now have 30 different toys, which come either assembled or in ready to build kits. All my designs are original, and I don't use any finishes or stains. I make my toys “playable”. While the workmanship is impeccable, the toys are meant to be played with. A child can fill in the details using his or her imagination. That encourages them to develop their imagination.

My wife, Sandy, does a tremendous job of packaging, shipping orders, accounting, inventory, Instruction sheets and everything else that goes into getting the toys to market. She will be retiring the end of 2016 from her “real” job, and will continue working with the toys doing what she does best.

The enjoyment Sandy and I get from seeing the kids playing with our toys is the best. We love the kids and are glad that they like our toys. We are probably one of the only booths at a craft sale that has “It’s OK to Touch” signs all over our table.
