Heather's work is beautiful, the crochet squares are so pretty and were attached to the fabric very neatly, myself and my mum are great fans of Heather' cushions...thank you Heather! X

About

Where did the journey begin?

My first memories of my little red suitcase are set in amongst that floral haze of fabric that was the seventies. Those wonderful flowery patterns, lost in time, but remembered in the far flung corners of our minds as the fabric of our childhoods. At this time it may have contained a little handmade quilt and a small beaded purse with a few pence. Some felt tip pens and one of the little craft projects which ruled my world.

I think I have always loved finding colourful things, and looking intently at those things, tried to work out how to make them. Always wanting to explore and travel, adventures to the end of my garden were quickly replaced by bikes, then hopping on buses, and trains and planes.

The jumble sales of my childhood, became the markets of my home town. The bigger markets, Camden, Portobello, Spitalfields in all their diversity and colour called. I remember finding two huge colourful and bedraggled crochet blankets in my early 20's, before I knew what I had found and what they would come to mean.

The markets of London town became the Indian bazaars, the markets by the sea, with bright printed sheets billowing in the breeze. I discovered handmade embroidered clothes, beautiful woven jackets and bags in the mountains of Bolivia, wool from the Lamas, all the way to the treasures of the dusty little ribbon shop in Bogota.

I was taught to crochet before I knew it was called crochet. A friend from the Andes, her hair wrapped in bright clothes. We made hats, round and round we went at a time when filling our hands and days with making seemed just the right thing to do.

And so now it does again. Even through the at home times and family times, I have always felt I had a business waiting to burst out of me and that there were more adventures to be taken. My little red suitcase contains the memories of those adventures and the inspiration from the people I met along the way.

Did I mention I think Women in business rock?....They totally do! ;-)
