Announcement    MYTH+MIRTH is a celebration of the beauty of imperfection, nature and story telling .

I draw inspiration upon many things, but mostly what pulls on my heartstrings, and I portray that in my work abstractly in a palette of colours that conjur memories , emotion and mood.

Myth+ Mirth jewelry aesthetic is contemporary,wabi-sabi,rustic,bohemian and earthy.

I try to repurpose materials I find along the way in many of my projects because I believe in treading lightly on our beautiful planet, and it also means that anything old is new again.

Each piece has it's own inspiration and story, which is where the name Myth + Mirth originates from, each design will always result in an intentional, poetic, one -of-a- kind-piece.

Myth: The word ‘ Myth’ originates from the Greek word mythos, meaning ‘word’ or ‘tale’ or ‘true narrative’, referring not only to the means by which it was transmitted but also to its being rooted in truth. Mythos was also closely related to the word myo, meaning ‘to teach’, or ‘to initiate into the mysteries’.

Mirth: Old English meaning "joy, pleasure, eternal bliss, salvation" . By early 13c. as "expressions or manifestations of happiness, rejoicing;" by mid-14c. as "state or feeling of merriment, jollity, hilarity."

Mirth suggests spontaneous amusement or gaiety, full of happiness, manifested briefly in laughter.

All good things in life.

About

Myth + Mirth is a celebration of the beauty of imperfection, nature and story telling.

I draw inspiration upon many things, but mostly what pulls on my heartstrings, and I portray that in my work abstractly in a palette of colours that conjur memories , emotion and mood.

I studied design in London, what seems to be a lifetime ago,but teach myself new techniques frequently and am self taught in many mediums, however I focus primarily on Mixed Media Rustic Jewelry, with materials ranging from clay + gemstones to metals +and paper,to fabric + wood. The more organic and natural the material is, the better.

Myth+ Mirth's jewelry aesthetic is contemporary,wabi-sabi,rustic,bohemian and earthy.

I try to repurpose materials I find along the way in many of my projects because I believe in treading lightly on our beautiful planet, and it also means that anything old is new again.

Each piece has it's own story, which is where the name Myth + Mirth originates from, and each design will always result in an intentional, poetic ,one-of-a- kind-piece.

All metal pieces are hand cut without a template; filed, sanded, painted, polished, sealed and assembled by hand, resulting in an unrefined, contemporary earthy beauty.

Many parts of this process are also utilized with all other materials and findings.

I find beauty in imperfection in everything and wabi-sabi is what they call this in Japan.

I live my life accordingly to this philosophy, which also means that I use this process in my designs and art.

When it comes to materials; wabi-sabi is a natural process, however there are feelings you can't express with words by trying to articulate what wabi-sabi really is.

In simple terms; it's an expression frozen in time.

"Materials that are vulnerable to the effects of weathering or human treatments, resulting in cracks, chips, peelings, discolortions, rust, patinas, etc ...are a testament to the history of the material from use and misuse, but still possess undiminished character, strength and beauty."

Things wabi-sabi are organic, intimate, unrefined, abstract, imperfect, unpretentious, natural, romantic, poetic, one-of-a-kind and emotionally warm.

The closest English word to wabi-sabi is probably rustic, and shares some of the material characteristics with primitive art, that is,objects that are earthy, simple, and unpretentious.

There are many other facets of wabi-sabi, how it relates to spiritual values, your state of mind and moral precepts,as well as the metaphysical basis and how it correlates with the Universe, but I simply can't write all that here. Nor am I an expert in it.

The basis, principles and philosophy of wabi-sabi, is how I live my life - with mindfulness, acceptence, simplicity, intention and great appreciation of the cosmic order.
