Announcement   Due to time being spent with my son in GA, I will not be able to ship orders placed between Aug 3-5 until Aug 8, 2017. Thanks for your patience.
A small farm dwelling where simple goods are made by hand one piece at a time. Inspired by vintage designs I offer rug hooking patterns and small needfuls like pincushions and doll quilts. Each piece is designed and created by me in my hillside cottage. I hope you enjoy the simple industry of the Winter Cottage.
My patterns are not returnable. However, if I accidentally send you the wrong pattern, I will make an exchange for you and send the right pattern. I don't sell any kits or finished rugs. So all the hooked rug listings are for either paper pattern or a pattern drawn on primitive linen. Even though the preset Etsy Shop Policies section states that I do not accept returns or exchanges, please note that I am very happy to work with you if you are not satisfied with anything that you receive from my shop. My desire is to help you shop at Winter Cottage with confidence so please convo me with any questions regarding a listing.
All the doll quilts, pin cushions and other needfuls are finished products. Please note, that there may be intentional aged spots, a frayed edge or two, even a pin hole. But this is all in keeping with the intent to give the piece an aged appearance. All is done in good taste and within the bounds of what you would expect for an antique treasure.
Thank you for stopping by my shop. I hope you find something you like. Please stop back often to see what new items have been added.

About

Inspired by vintage, I create hooked rug patterns and needlework that reflect the simple endearment of old.

My mom taught me how to sew when I was a young girl. Ever since I've been creating things with my hands for my home. Often the motivation was wanting an antique but not being able to afford it so I'd sew my own version. I studied what made an old piece so endearing: a frayed edge, a rip from a pin, an age spot or two. So then I began learning how to incorporate frayed and age spots to my projects. But there was one antique that I loved but did not know how to do and that was hooked rugs. Till one year a friend of mine starting hooking and it motivated me to learn as well. Rug hooking is not cheap to get into and so to save money I found myself overdying my own wool and drawing my own patterns. My friends kept telling me that I should sell my patterns. One day last year, I did. My designs are inspired by old textiles, PA German folk art, and farm life. Show me a textile that is old or made by a school girl or tattered, frayed, or floppy with age and I'll love it... and want to make one just like it!
I've raised four boys on a hill in Berks County, Pa. For many years we milked jersey cows, raised chickens and turkeys, and tended vegetable and flower gardens. The boys have grown and gone. I'm a long distance grandma to an adorable baby brother and big sister. Our home is a simple small cottage with a center chimney, just as cozy as it can be on a winter day for handwork and lots of coffee. I'm blessed to have spent so many years on this beautiful hillside. I feel just as blessed to be able to pursue my love of handwork and fill an Etsy Shop with it! Thanks for stopping by. Please come back often.

It's the simple threads of bygone years that warm my heart and inspire my handwork. I've raised four boys and now have 2 small grandchildren. I also love to kayak, bike, hike, pick flowers and go antiquing...add coffee and it's even better!
