Handmade gifts inspired by Nantucket, crafted just for you by islander Lisa Genthner

Hi! I’m Lisa Genthner, the founder of Nantucket Cane & Clay. I grew up 30 miles out to sea on the small island of Nantucket, Massachusetts, where I began taking ceramics classes at the age of ten, and I learned to weave my first Nantucket Lightship Basket when I was eleven. Today, I'm proud to be a member of the Artist's Association of Nantucket.

Growing up on Nantucket, I didn’t have to go far to see the gorgeous glimmer of evening light reflecting off the ocean or hear the gentle rustle of beach grass in the breeze. While earning my B.A. in neuroscience from Dartmouth College, it was sailing (I’m a Coast Guard licensed captain) and ceramics that kept me grounded to my island home.

To this day, it brings me great happiness to create a mug reminiscent of days spent on the water, a bowl that feels bathed in sunlight, or a basket which beautifully marries the traditional Nantucket style with contemporary colors. I strive to craft art that isn’t just reserved for special occasions- my pieces are meant to be used and enjoyed everyday.

I hope you find a little bit of Nantucket cheer here!
