About

Rebel Rebel

If you really want to know how my business got it's start, I'll tell you. My daughter made me do it.

As a precocious and choosy 4-year old does, my daughter decided that flowers and bows were not her style for hair accessories, which she badly needed to tame her blond mane of curls. Instead, she wanted pirate skulls, color and sparkle - and at the time, those were hard to come by in kids' clothing stores. I needed a quick solution.

Inspired by my teen years of pop culture, music videos and bold designs from the 1980s - I set to work on some fun and unique hair toppers right at my dining room table. Ribbons, fabrics, baubles and sparkly bits became hair clips and headbands. My daughter loved them, her hair looked great, and my friends asked me to make their kids a few. Soon I began selling my creations locally here in Southern California and establishing my online shop here at Etsy.

While the years have gone by (my daughter is now a teenager and still precocious and choosy) I've grown my brand NattyBratty here on Etsy and Etsy Wholesale. I create handmade baby goods that are fresh, fun and made with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Each of my designs has an emphasis on modern prints, vintage vibes, sweet details and lots of pattern and color. I am a firm believer that kidswear should be joyful and deliberately different, just as my young daughter was when I started out on this journey.

I have a sunny, light-filled home studio here in Encinitas, California - a small town that hugs the coast of the Pacific and has a wonderfully laid-back charm. Design, sewing and crafting time happens during the week when my kids are in school and my 15-year old German Shepherd is snoozing. In my free time, you can catch me listening to music, enjoying the vibe of our little coastal Main Street and performing the seemingly endless driving duties of Swim Mom - which also means I'm listening to quite a few audio books in the car :-) I'm so glad you stopped in and hope you find something you like - if you have any questions about my products or process - give me a shout here on Etsy and I'll be more than happy to chat with you.

Additional policies and FAQs
CPSIA Regulations & Conformity:

The CPSIA is the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. It regulates, among other things, lead, phthalates, toy safety and testing certification - and has strict guidelines for Children's Products that all manufacturers are required to adhere to.

We keep it fairly simple here at NattyBratty - using textiles, natural wood products and findings that are compliant with and/or exempt from CPSIA testing. Basically, the majority of my materials have been determined by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) as safe and in no need of testing. Those materials and products that require testing, such as bib snaps, metal hair clips and wood teething rings - have been tested and approved for use. For CPC certificates on any items for sale in my shop, you can request them here on Etsy and I'll be happy to send you a .pdf file.

SAFETY WARNINGS:

HAIR ACCESSORIES: Please note that some of my items may contain small parts, such as headband and hair clips, that may present choking hazards to young children if pulled off or placed in the mouth. NEVER leave a baby or toddler unattended wearing my hair accessories for these reasons.

TEETHING RINGS:
Care for the wooden rings on my teething soothers is simple and easy, however, please note that if you submerge the rings in water for a period of time, mildew and/or mold can occur since the wood cannot dry out properly. Washing under the faucet for a quick moment is all it takes to get my wooden rings clean. If you notice the surface of the wood is looking chipped, broken or splintered, please discard it immediately. Replacements are easy to find, and I am happy to send another to you for a small fee. Take note that banging the wood on hard surfaces and improper washing (submerging in water) can lead to cracks.

Re-sealing the wood rings isn't necessary, but some prefer the surface coating of beeswax and olive oil to keep the wood looking beautiful and frankly, it helps promote a longer life for the teething toy.

COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT:
The designs you see at my Etsy shop are unique and protected property of NattBratty.
