Rebel Rebel

If you really want to know how NattyBratty got it's start, I'll tell you. My daughter made me do it.

As it so often goes with kids, my 3-year old was very choosy about what she would wear in her wild mane of hair - nothing frilly, lots of color...and skulls. That's right, if it had a skull and crossbones on it, she gave the thumbs up. Looking back, I'm not sure if it was a pirate thing, or a rebel thing, but looking cute and tough was my kid's THING.

So...being handy with a sewing machine and a glue gun, and harkening back to my 80s teen years - I set to work on some fun and unique hair toppers right there at my dining room table. I was having so much fun, and my daughter was looking so stinking cute that I began selling my creations. I called my brand "NattyBratty - Hair Accessories for the Posh & Punk" (natty (posh) and bratty (punk), get it?). The name stuck, I bought more fabrics, ribbons and yes, skulls - and I had a little home business.

I opened up my shop on Etsy in 2009 and here I am today. Over the years, my designs have evolved - perhaps the skull trend has taken a slight backseat to more modern prints, vintage vibes and lots of color...but I still take a keen interest in following current style trends that might reflect well on a young fashion guru.

I have a home studio here in sunny southern California, and production time happens when the kids are in school and my old German Shepherd dog is snoozing. I'll blast my favorite 80s mix, maybe throw on a Bowie album, and get to work. It's fun, it's rewarding and I'm lucky to have such a great creative outlet.

Thanks for stopping by - and don't hesitate to contact me via Etsy with any questions.

Additional policies and FAQs
By purchasing from my shop you acknowledge that you have READ AND AGREE to my shop policies:

HAIR ACCESSORIES: Please note that some of my items may contain small parts (buttons, clips, pearl or rhinestone embellishments and flowers) that may present choking hazards to young children if pulled off or placed in the mouth. NEVER leave a baby or toddler unattended wearing my hair accessories for these reasons.

TEETHING NECKLACES: My fabric and wooden bead teething necklaces are designed specifically for adult use ONLY. While they are beautiful to wear and extremely handy to have with teething babies (chewable and natural) - they are still designed as adult jewelry, and should never be given to a baby or toddler to chew on alone or manipulate without direct adult supervision. These necklaces are NOT toys.

Before you allow your baby to chew on the necklace (and do this of course while you are wearing it, watching your baby and looking fabulous) - check for any pulled stitches or seams, or any chewed holes in the fabric. Baby teeth can be sharp and destructive! Although I've taken great care to sew these necklaces sturdily and with close-seam stitches, all precaution is warranted.

Use the necklaces at your own risk. I cannot be held responsible for any sort of injury or death in the misuse of my products.

CLEANING THE TEETHING NECKLACES: Washing the necklace is simple - you can rinse it with warm water and a bit of dish soap to clean up any stains or dirt - and promptly remove it and hang it up to dry thoroughly. If the wooden beads are left submerged in water, it can lead to mold and/or mildew due to the wood not drying out completely. Simply put, don't submerge your necklace in water, and make it a quick and easy wash at the sink. Do not put your necklace in the washing machine or dryer.

Care for the wooden rings on my Gummy Bunny teething toys is simple and easy, however, please note that if you submerge the rings in water for a period of time, mildew and/or mold can occur since the wood cannot dry out properly. Washing under the faucet for a quick moment is all it takes to get my wooden rings clean. If you notice the surface of the wood is looking chipped, broken or splintered, please discard it immediately. Replacements are easy to find, and I am happy to send another to you for a small fee. Take note that banging the wood on hard surfaces and improper washing (submerging in water) can lead to cracks.

Re-sealing the wood rings isn't necessary, but some prefer the surface coating of beeswax and olive oil to keep the wood looking beautiful and frankly, it helps promote a longer life for the teething toy.

The designs you see at my Etsy shop are unique and protected property of NattBratty.
