About

Recovering Print Journalist Makes Wood

I love woodworking, carrying on a family tradition built in North Carolina, where I was born (Siler City represent!). I grew up in Durham and have watched from a distance as residents and city leaders transformed that dying industrial tobacco town into a cultural haven.

I currently live in South Florida with my two girls and son (6, 19 and 17, respectively), but I hope to return home in about 10 years when my kids are all grown.

I worked 15 years in newspapers, starting out at the State Press at Arizona State. I've been a reporter at the Bakersfield Californian, reporter and editor at the Eureka (Calif.) Times-Standard, city editor at the Chico (Calif.) Enterprise-Record and city editor at the Medford Mail Tribune. Laid off like a lot of journalists in 2008 and since, I got a cold call from a local TV station asking me to run their news website. That led to eight years in online news production and management for KTVL (Medford, Ore.), WPEC (West Palm Beach) and finally United Press International. After about a year as a stay-at-home dad, I returned to the workforce, commuting almost an hour from Boca Raton to downtown Miami, where I managed marketing and membership for a museum. That experience convinced me it was time to strike out and become my own boss.

In today's hectic "reality show" world governed by electronics and social media, handmade items carry special meaning. Every item is unique and has its own story to tell. My items are well-built and will last, carrying your family's story for generations.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Your magic wand should last a lifetime or two! The glow tip and wand may choose to separate at some point if dropped from a good distance or if snapped off. If that happens, contact me and we'll work out a mostly free way to fix it (shipping :-/). If the tip becomes scuffed, clean and dry it and apply a VERY thin layer of thin CA or "superglue". Wipe the excess with a paper towel while the CA remains wet. That should restore the shine. The finish on your wand is carnauba wax. If it dulls, buff it with a clean cloth or apply and buff in a new coat.

Cutting boards are easy. Keep some mineral oil handy, and once a month (or as needed) add a tablespoon or less to the cutting board surface and work it in using a clean rag or paper towel.

You want a custom order?

AWESOME. Bring it. Send me a note and I will make it happen.
