About

About Nekka

I am a pop surrealist artist living with my 2 parrots in Adelaide, Australia. My studio is full of feathers, paint, and sketchbooks. It's a beautiful, chaotic mess, but that's just the way I like it.

I love drawing people and animals with an eccentric twist. My art is whimsical and bittersweet. My aim in every painting is to take light and dark and put them together, as a way to make the beautiful creepy and vice versa.

The most magical thing about illustration for me is bringing imagination to life. All these worlds already exist even if they aren't drawn, but they're all vague and fleeting, and the moment you put them on paper they start blossoming like they're opening up that entire world and you can then enter into it even more. Drawing breathes life into it. I love inventing characters and stories and giving them a purpose. My favourite part of a project is constructing its narrative background. I have a never-ending fascination with colour and exploring unique compositions. I think those are the two major elements that inspire my work.

The name “Nekka” was serendipitous: it was a special nickname given to me by my brother when he was young and mispronounced my name. It stuck ever since, and has now become the perfect, whimsical encapsulation of everything I create.

♥️ THANK YOU ♥️
To all my customers I say thank you! Supporting an artist means you help dreamers like me do what I love for a living. Lots of time and dedication goes into each painting, and each purchase allows me to continue creating more and keep bringing my imaginative world to life. I could not do it without your continued support! So to those responsible, this little alien sends you lots of love and bunny hugs!

What are your prints like?

My prints are archival standard, printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag archival paper in professional archival inks. I am very particular about the type of paper and printer I use, and for this reason I manage all the printing myself so I can ensure each print comes out perfectly! If I'm putting my artwork on paper, I want to make sure it's worth it!

Hahnemühle Photo Rag is a premium fine art matte paper - acid free, cotton rag. It's surface is relatively smooth with a very, very slight texture that does not interfere with image detail but enough to bring out that artisan feel. It is a little more expensive than some papers, but in this case you certainly get what you pay for - a paper of superb quality capable of producing excellent results.
