I typically don’t rush items to customers. It’s a policy of mine to make everything fresh by hand and jar my sauces the night before shipping. That way, you’re not getting an aging product; I prefer to make everything fresh and ship it right then.

This also takes into consideration my going to the market and hand-picking fresh produce myself. It’s a labor of love.

Most items are PROCESSED in 1-3 BUSINESS days

🎂 Some desserts and pastries are only SHIPPED MON.-THURS. to ensure freshness

You won’t want to miss this. See you there!
Tara’s cooking class at Williams-Sonoma® in Mt. Lebanon, PA at The Galleria in the Pittsburgh area on March 2nd was spectacular!
Attendees enjoyed Sauvignon Blanc-poached salmon, almond rice pilaf, layered salad and a sweet potato-Gruyère frittata!

'HER'STORY
Nellie J's Café™ is inspired by my great-grandmother, Nellie J. ("J" is for Jackson.) An outstanding home cook and baker, Nellie made everything from scratch with great love and care.

MY STORY
While I have Afro-Euro (including Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Italian and Sardinian) ancestry, my family's cultural roots are Southern. I strive daily to preserve and celebrate our heritage by preparing soul food just as good as we recall, but a bit healthier. Nellie J's Café™ is solely my (Tara's) creation and labor of love. I am the enthusiastic cook in the family, crafting memorable feasts for “two-to-a-crew” since adolescence. [All items here at Nellie J's Café™, including baked goods, are prepared by me. My mother, Stacey, only bakes sugar-free desserts via her Etsy shop.]

MOM'S STORY

To handcraft amazing comfort cuisine and create grand memories around your table! I accomplish this by maintaining, and even surpassing, the original taste of my family’s heirloom recipes while utilizing the freshest of ingredients and the ease of technology.

INGREDIENTS
Soul food is comforting, yet wonderfully versatile; I enrich mine by making simple and tasteful modifications to classic recipes. I offer a range of healthier options for you to choose from — so you can customize the salt, fat and sugar content in your selections! Remaining focused on obtaining not only the best ingredients, but those that yield the best result, I source local as well as imported ingredients. Yet it's more than tradition, training and skill, fine ingredients and great recipes; the love, attention, care, quality and pride I put into everything I do comprise what my customers actually taste, and this culinary signature cannot be duplicated.

We’re pleased to again be featured artisan vendors at Williams-Sonoma® in Mt. Lebanon, PA in the Pittsburgh area: Sept. 1, 2018 from 12-4pm. Come out and see us!

MEDIA
We had a blast on The Lynne Hayes-Freeland Show on CBS affiliates WPCW & KDKA in Pittsburgh during the past Christmas season—our third appearance over the years on KDKA-TV.
