What an amazing display of beauty and fallibility at the same time. Rustic and substantial, and instead of one, there are two beautiful stones set in there, and bravely owning up to the gap in between. What a simple and fantastic design! Also got here in lightning speed, wonderful artist, thank you!

As always, Wen at NepantlaShop has created a stellar piece of jewellery! I've been buying Nepantla pieces for a few years now, including a couple of custom pieces and I've never been disappointed. Her pieces are beautifully crafted, well packaged and her communication is first rate. I can't recommend Wen highly enough!

About

Handcrafted "funkie" wearable art, made in Southern California with love and intention.

↠ Shop Name
“Nepantla” is a Nahuatl (Mexica/Aztec language) word that indicates a space of “in between.” I first learned this term during my freshman year in college and ever since then I have felt it resonated with my own experiences growing up in the United States as a descendent of Mexican and Salvadorian parents. Many times I have experienced the feeling of not fitting in and being different. I was always “in between” different countries and different cultures. Like we say in Spanish, no soy ni de aquí ni de allá (I am neither from here nor there). My jewelry is a reflection of me, and Nepantla has reverberated in me ever since I first learned the significance of this term. My jewelry, like myself, is unique and special. I aim to create pieces that you will love as much as I loved creating them.

↠ About the Jewelry
Welcome. Nepantla Shop Jewelry was born out of my love for live music in combination with my creative hippie at heart and free spirited nature. As Cecil B. DeMille said “Creativity is a drug I cannot live without.”

My jewelry is handcrafted in Southern California using recycled guitar strings, natural gemstones/crystals, and hand stamped metals. Sustainability is important to me, therefore the idea of recycling old guitar strings and turning them into unique pieces of jewelry was a great way to put my creativity to good use.

Every piece of Nepantla Shop Jewelry is individually hand crafted with up-cycled guitar strings that have been generously donated by some of the best musicians in the Southern California area. The strings come from various instruments such as the acoustic guitar, pedal steel guitar, bajo quinto guitar, and electric guitar. They all have unique and very interesting stories to them; From being played in California’s best honky tonks to playing heavy metal festivals in Europe. These strings once made badass music and now you can make a statement with my hand crafted and one of a kind pieces of wearable art. I take pride in placing love and care into every piece of “funkie” jewelry that I create. Please take a look around and I hope you find some funkies that you love.

↠ Giving Back: Sound Art
I strongly believe that the arts and music education are essential in the lives of young children. Sound Art is an organization made up of professional musicians who provide music education to children K - 12 in some of the most under-served areas of Los Angeles, CA. A portion of all Nepantla Shop profits is donated to Sound Art annually. If you would like to learn more about Sound Art, please visit their website www.soundartla.org

↠ Sustainability
At Nepantla Shop, I am tree hugger for life. In my attempts to reduce my environmental impact, I believe in integrating green/sustainable practices into my business standards. My jewelry is packaged in jewelry cards, bags, and boxes that have been made from recycled resources by local small businesses. I also encourage you to recycle these, as well as recycle and reuse the shipping materials used to deliver your package. You can build a fort for your kids or a maze for your cats, create a cardboard postcard, add to your compost pile, reuse to ship out your own packages, etc. The possibilities are endless! Make Earth Day every day and Stay Funkie!

↠ Jewelry Care
Basic tips to help you care for your jewelry:
-Remove jewelry before washing your hands or applying makeup.
-Do not wear jewelry in the shower or in pools.
-Use polishing cloths to clean/polish your jewelry.
-Store your jewelry with anti-tarnish strips to help prevent tarnish. When available, I do my best to include an anti-tarnish strip with your purchase.
-Avoid contact sports or exercising while wearing jewelry.
-If your jewelry is causing your skin to turn green, this is not a sign of low quality jewelry, it is a natural reaction caused by the metal in your jewelry coming in contact with the acids of your skin or something on your skin (like lotion). An easy and quick way to help prevent this is to paint a coat of jewelry polish or clear nail polish on your jewelry. You may need to do this again as the nail polish may wear off with time.

↠ The Musicians
Nepantla Shop thanks the following musicians for their guitar strings/picks donations: Dave "Just Dave" Bernal [Just Dave Band]; Mike Maddux [The Ponderosa Aces]; John Schreffler Jr [Broken Bravado]; Storm Rhode IV; Brian Lynn Jones [Brian Lynn Jones & The Misfit Cowboys]; Greg Erba [The Fulltones]; Gethen Jenkins [The Freightshakers]; René Marroquín; Sharon Bautista; Carlos Garcia; Zack Hall; Manny Ceja

If you see a product you like, but would like a different size or color, please contact me. If it is possible for that product, I will work with you on altering the product to your specific needs. If you would like a custom order, or see something you like but it is no longer available, you may contact me and I will work with you to create a custom piece for you.

Returns & Refunds

All sales are final. However, if you feel that your item was damaged in transit, please send an email to nepantlashop at gmail dot com with photos and complete information. I will gladly work with you to resolve the issue.

In case a return or exchange is approved, you will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs to return your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you may vary. Repairs

If you damage one of your pieces (e.g., you break a link/clasp) with time and wear, for a minimal fee (if any at all) I will gladly help repair it for you. You will be responsible for the shipping cost for repairs.

Precious Metals Used

The metals used in Nepantla jewelry include: Argentium Silver, Sterling Silver, Fine Silver, Silver filled, Gold filled, Copper, and Brass.

What is Argentium Silver?

Argentium Silver, made with 93.5% pure silver (exceeding the traditional Sterling standard), is hypoallergenic and tarnish resistant. It is brighter/whiter than traditional Sterling, white gold, or platinum. All Argentium Silver is made from ethically sourced silver.

What is Silver Filled?

Silver filled metal is a 5% or 10% layer of thick/durable sterling silver that is bonded with a copper or brass alloy base. It is hypoallergenic and tarnish resistant. This metal is more affordable but provides the same beauty of Sterling silver.

What is Gold Filled?

Gold filled metal is a thick layer of gold that has been bonded with a core metal (usually brass and sometimes Sterling). It is legally required to contain 5% gold by weight. Most gold-filled is 12kt or 14kt gold-filled. This is an affordable alternative to solid gold. Gold filled jewelry is hypoallergenic and tarnish resistant.

Skin Reaction to Metals

If your jewelry is causing your skin to turn green, this is not a sign of low quality jewelry, it is a natural reaction caused by the metal in your jewelry coming in contact with the acids/oils of your skin or something on your skin (like lotion). An easy and quick way to help prevent this is to paint a coat of jewelry polish or clear nail polish on your jewelry. You may need to do this again as the polish may wear off with time.
