Warming the Heart and Stomach With the Perfect Gift
Kelly and Corinne...That's us. We started a business a few years ago and are always looking at adding creative items that capture the essence of the moment or memory of events in our lives. A few years after my (Corinne) grandmother passed, I was really struggling to find the perfect gift for my mom and dad for Christmas until one day when I opened a cookbook and found a gem, the holy grail of ideas. Inside the cover of the cookbook was a recipe my grandmother had written down when she was creating one of her award winning cookies. She loved to enter those county fair contests and would always make the tastiest treats out of things we didn't expect like this Butterscotch Potato Chip Recipe I had just stumbled upon. I remembered those. What his us most though was the flood of memories that came over me from just seeing her scribbled and sometimes misspelled words. I remembered her hair, her voice, the flour in the kitchen, the smell and so much more. We knew right then and there that I'd found the base of my gift that year.
What we didn't realize was how many people like us got the same feeling by seeing a recipe or their loved one's handwriting. We are still convinced that there is no better gift to give. It will bring a tear to your eye, a warmness to your heart and when you finally get around to making the recipe, a delicious sense of reconnect.
Find an old recipe or write one down for your friends. Your family and friends will cherish the thought that went into it and you don't even have to break the bank.
