Kayaking on Hermit Lake.
I am nuts about nature!
I have always enjoyed spending time in the woods. As a kid, turning over rocks to find salamanders was so my idea of fun! We have lots of rocks in New Hampshire.
Birch is one tree that has always fascinated me. Gorgeous bark and wood, and as I am learning, there are many varieties. I love the golden, black and silver birch as much as the white birch. It is one of the most versatile trees on earth, with medicinal value as well as endless possibilities with the bark and the wood.
And then there are the oaks. Acorns! Thank goodness there are usually plenty to share with the squirrels. Right now I am developing a method of drying acorns naturally using solar energy. More on that later.
When my parents passed, I inherited their woodworking shop. I love being there, with Dad's tools, books and notes and Mom's plans and projects. They loved working together, and my husband and I are enjoying continuing our family traditions.
Who knows what the future will bring, what new paths and discoveries I will make in the woods. All I can say is, stop, look and listen to the natural world around you every chance you get. That's where the answers are!
