5 out of 5 starsThis drum is beautiful!! The fur and hide pattern is what caught my eye followed by how easy it is to tune with the beads on the back. This is such an elegant solution - I wanted a drum with skin which I know is sensitive to humidity, so the easy tuning solves this problem and allows me to adjust easily to suit the sound I want to achieve. I am a beginner and feel this drum is an excellent investment in my learning and spiritual practice. The energy is undeniable as I felt an instant connection and rhythm with this piece. The seller was so kind and responsive. Jason answered all my questions and shipped immediately. I received it in just a few days and upon playing it I wondered why I waited so long to invest in such a gorgeous drum. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ ✨

Handmade Playable Art in the Ozark Mountains
Each of New World Drums has its own special beauty born of the combination of beautiful woods, careful construction and attention to detail. Our drums are objects of art as well as functioning musical instruments. The rich grains of each wood are lovingly brought forth with our own special finish, and then waxed to a shiny luster.
Our drums have Instant Slide Tuning which gives a tremendous range of tone with only a few seconds adjustment. They have the finest sound quality available, plus they are uniquely adjustable to the sound range that most appeals to you. No difficult lacing patterns! And, there will never be an occasion where your drum can't be played because of humidity.
New World Drums are made with a base of laminated Baltic birch with mixed hard and soft wood accents in contrasting shades and patterns. We use a variety of custom stains to provide you with a choice of color from rich wood grains plus almost any color in the rainbow! The hides are laced with a low stretch polyester cord and the tuners are wood. Our drum heads are made of goat hide which has crisp highs and resounding lows.
New World Drums are very light weight for their size, yet sturdy enough to go anywhere. Most drums range from 2-10 lbs. Play our drums in a cave, by a river, on a stage, in a studio, or in a circle around a fire. They can easily adjust to any situation.
About Creator Doug Powell
Doug Powell is a Master Drum Maker who has began refining his art of drum making in the late 90s. His passion for making drums began as an expression of his spiritual journey. Through involvement in a circle of spiritually dedicated men in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Doug began his journey into drumming. He discovered a passionate love for drums. In this process his excitement about drums led him to explore the many cultures that honor the drum.
2019 - Continuing the Tradition under New Ownership
In June of 2019 New World Drums was purchased by Jason and Lorrie Davis of Eureka Springs, AR. Jason, a musician, purchased his first drum from Doug in 2013 and fell in love with the product. In 2014 Jason returned to Eureka Springs and purchased another drum. Jason used both drums to accompany other musicians in a variety of musical settings in Northeast Arkansas. Doug and Jason began talking about the sale of the business in 2014, and began exploring options. Things didn’t line up until five years later. Doug wanted to see the business go to someone who would continue making these playable pieces of art with passion and enthusiasm, and that is what Jason and Lorrie intend to do.
