One of a Show I attend every year with my friend from ileepapergoods
Old World European bookbindery with a fresh contemporary design sensibility
I learned to be a bookbinder in the old city of Zurich, Switzerland where I grow up.
After a traditional 4-year apprenticeship and several sojourns abroad, I run my own business for 14 years. I trained several apprentices and taught courses.
After living and working in the same town for so long I was ready for a change. The big move to Seattle, leaving everything i knew and loved behind, wasn't easy. Rising my son and working as a bookbinder helped me to make friends and to embrace my new home.
i bind books entirely by hand, in both traditional and contemporary styles, using techniques and tools that have changed little over hundreds of years.
Working with paper, leather, fabric and glue has been my big passion ever since I was sixteen. After an intense week of work in my studio in Seattle, a trip to the wide open spaces of nearby Eastern Washington does its magic.
I get inspired by color and patterns of old rundown farms, junkyards, tumbleweeds, fences and return home full of new ideas and even more passionate about my work.
