Hoping to make people smile

Night Cat is all about creativity and challenge. When I first began crafting things I went photographic, then digital, and now I've moved into the physical. Working mainly in various woods and metals, Night Cat produces a range of jewellery and accessories that I hope people will, quite simply, like the look of.

Almost all the products up for sale here are either unique one-offs or from a limited line where only a certain number were ever made. This is important to me both because it forces constant creativity and because of the special touch that comes from knowing something is handmade rather than mass produced. The unique items are marked as unique, and the limited lines are numbered in terms of (for example) 7/10 so you, the buyer, can see which number out of how many you've got.

I am also more than happy to discuss custom designs and commissions with customers and will list these privately on Etsy so nobody can beat you to the punch when it comes to that special item you wanted to be just so. Please get in touch with me if you want something customised or made to your specifications; I'd love the challenge.

Welcome to Night Cat! I hope you like what you see here and, if you don't, why not ask me to make something special just for you? I work primarily in wood, although I am happy to work in other materials too.

When possible I source all my wood from sustainable sources. In certain cases such as with aged, burl, or spalted woods this is not possible but I make a moral point of not working with any type of wood sourced from old growth rainforests. Much of my materials are sourced from within the UK and exotic woods such as Sapele and Iroko are sourced from sustainable second-growth forests.

I also sell to retailers with wholesale discounts. Please check the bottom of this page for further details.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
All products from Night Cat are handmade and, as such, each one is slightly different. Although your item may vary in minor ways (wood grain patterns, colours etc) from the shop's photos, the photos are at all times an honest representation of what you will receive. For this reason and due to the limited number of certain items, I cannot issue de-facto refunds for any damage that happens after dispatch. If, however, an item is damaged whilst in my possession I will immediately contact the buyer and offer them a chance to either cancel the transaction for a full refund or have a partial refund issued and the damaged (and repaired) item sent out as usual. I am happy to provide new photos of any repaired items upon request (before dispatch) so you will know what you are getting.

All items are thoroughly checked for any damage before dispatch and repairs or corrections will be carried out if any defects are found up until the point of dispatch when the item leaves my hands.

If an item you've bought does arrive damaged or even becomes damaged some time after you've purchased it, please do get in touch and include a photo of the damage. If repairing it is possible I will let you know and am happy to carry out such repairs if the item is posted back to me. Not all damage can be repaired but I will do my best, and your feedback on how the damage occurred will help to make future items stronger and tougher.
Over time, the finish on items may shift to either more or less glossy as they encounter normal wear and tear and instructions for care & refinishing at home are available at the website (www.night-cat.co.uk). If you would like me to professionally renew the finish on any of my items I would be happy to do so, for a small fee plus postage, but in most cases this can be carried out by anyone at home.

POSTAGE INSURANCE -
Postage insurance is not included by default, but insurance can be purchased to cover postage so you or I can claim money back if the carrier damages an item in transit, however this will incur an extra charge and can be complex in terms of liability for overseas orders. Please contact me if you would like postage insurance added to your order and I will get the details back to you and make a private listing which you can use to purchase the item(s) with insurance. This requires some contact with the Royal Mail so it will cause a bit of a delay before dispatch compared with standard postage.

ITEMS LOST IN MAIL -
Regretfully, I cannot issue refunds for items lost in the mail (undelivered) when using the standard 1st Class postage. If you don't trust your local postal carrier or are worried about customs, please choose Signed For delivery during checkout.
The delivery (or not) of Signed For items can be verified, so I can issue refunds for these, provided they are not customised or custom made orders, if your package does not arrive.

RIGHT TO CANCEL -
The UK Distance Selling Regulations allow buyers a 7 day cancellation period beginning after receipt of a non-customised, non-made-to-order item (this covers most items in my shop) and the EU regulations provide a 14 day cancellation period after receipt. Please contact me and return your item as soon as possible if you are unhappy with your order and I will be happy to issue a refund. The refund will cover the price you paid at checkout here on Etsy, excluding any delivery charges either way.
I would prefer to open a dialogue with customers who are, for any reason, not satisfied with their items to understand exactly what the problem is and ensure that it doesn't happen again. That said, no reason must be given if you don't feel comfortable discussing it.

In cases where you are not satisfied with a part of a larger order but are satisfied with other parts, please contact me and I will do my best to aid you. I will also issue a partial refund under the above terms for individual items from a larger order if asked to do so.

In cases where you are not satisfied with part of a single item (for example, if there is a defect with a chain), please contact me and I will also be happy to help. In this case it is cheaper and faster for both of us if I send out a replacement for the defective part on its own rather than issuing a refund in full, but I will still issue a refund if the whole item is returned to me. If only the defective part is sent back then I cannot issue a full refund, but would be happy to replace that part at no cost to you. Although all items are checked for defects before dispatch, it is possible that some may make it through anyway and in these rare cases I offer my profound apologies for the inconvenience caused.
Payment
Please refer to the overall Etsy policies on payments for details on these matters. All sales from Night Cat must be completed via the Etsy-supported payment methods via the Etsy checkout process, so I defer to the site-wide policies for these matters. This shop accepts payment via any method supported by Etsy, including Etsy gift cards.

For custom orders, everything will be discussed with you before any payment is taken to ensure that you are 100% happy with the design and configuration of your item. Once this is all done, a private listing will be added to the shop which you can then buy to start the process of physically making your item.

VAT & SALES TAX -
All item prices listed are inclusive of VAT and other sales taxes unless specifically stated otherwise. This means the price you see on the site is the price you'll pay to receive your item: item price plus cost of delivery. For more details on customs charges, please see below.

CANCELLATION -
Any order of a limited line or unique item can be cancelled up until the morning (9AM GMT) when the item is dispatched. After this time I cannot guarantee that a cancellation goes through since I may already be on the way to the post office to deliver your item. For example, if you place an order at 2PM GMT on Tuesday you could then cancel up until 9AM GMT on Wednesday at the earliest. After this time, your item may already have been dispatched and your order cannot be cancelled easily (but you can still return it for a refund, less delivery charges, within 14 days of receipt). If in doubt, get in touch with me and I will let you know the details on your specific order and I am happy to delay dispatch for up to 7 working days if required. See below for your right to refund if your item has been dispatched and you choose to cancel.

For made to order and customised items I cannot allow a cancellation period since work will begin on them immediately upon receipt of your order (after any discussion pertaining to specifics of what you want made). These items being made to fit or suit you means that they cannot then be resold to another individual, nor can they by their very nature be recycled and used for other products, and this is the only reason for a lack of cancellation period for these items.
Shipping
Once your order is completed your items will be shipped out to you the next working day after they are ready, by First Class post & Airmail internationally. In the case of limited line items and uniques, this will be the next working day after the order has been completed. In the case of made to order listed items, this may take up to two working weeks (though usually within one) depending on demand and workload. For custom orders (trinket boxes, etc), raw material stock levels may cause extra delays, but this will be discussed with you during the customisation/commission process.

Items will be shipped out via First Class Royal Mail within the UK and by airmail to countries outside the UK, and they should arrive at most destinations within 14 days (3 within the UK, 7 within the EU) but I cannot be held liable for any delays after dispatch since those are due to the postal service. The times listed above are the maximum estimates; most items will arrive much sooner than this.
Please initiate a custom order request if you'd like a different postage method, insurance, or any other alterations with delivery (including immediate dispatch if you need it fast). The prices listed are the lowest I can make them without compromising delivery speed but 2nd class post can be used if money is tight.

Smaller items will arrive packed in a padded (bubble wrap type) envelope with any fragile contents marked as such, and (subject to stock) a black velveteen drawstring pouch will hold any smaller items to further protect them. Any larger items or custom items with particularly fragile parts will be appropriately boxed & packed in bubble wrap or polystyrene to protect them. If you don't trust your mail handler to take care of fragile things, please initiate a custom order and request that extra packing material (bubble wrap, cardboard, etc) be added and I will be happy to oblige. This may incur extra charges for larger items (those requiring boxes for postage), but won't for smaller ones since limited quantities of such materials are kept in stock.

GIFTS -
Gift-wrapping can be provided for any item you wish to send directly to the recipient, including wrapping paper, ribbon (where possible), and a card with your custom message on it. If you would like special gift wrapping added to your order, please initiate a custom request or email me before placing your order.

RECEIPTS -
Paper receipts are not included by default in order to reduce impact on the environment, but paper receipts can be requested for any order (just add it in the order notes or email me). Emailed receipts are provided for every order.

URGENT ORDERS -
If you really need something fast, you can get in touch with me via the custom product form or email (see below) and I can try to work out a shipping upgrade for you, but please note that this may not always be possible and that I cannot guarantee the listed prices on shipping. Once you've paid, however, the item will be shipped out to you via the agreed method and at the agreed upon and paid price. Urgent orders will be dispatched as soon as they are packed, on the day of the order when possible.

COLLECTION IN PERSON -
If you are able to pick up items from Eastcote train station on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines then I would be happy to bring them to you in person. In this case, please request a custom order and a private listing will be made, less delivery charges. Then you can pay for the item via Etsy as usual and we can arrange to meet for you to collect your item(s). I cannot accept cash on collection for accounting purposes, so please do pay via Etsy.

CUSTOMS CHARGES -
None of the items listed in this shop should incur extra customs charges, but for some areas customs may decide to open and inspect the contents of the package since many items will contain wood. Australia, for example, has stringent restrictions on wood crossing its borders, however none of the Night Cat products should fall foul of these since they are fully sealed during the finishing process. If customs do open a package and question the contents I would be happy for them to contact me to clarify that these items are sealed and won't spread any insects, plant diseases, and so on, but this should be fairly obvious from a quick inspection of the items. My contact details can be found at the bottom of this page.

In any cases where extra customs charges are incurred, I cannot be held liable for them as they would be unforeseen. I have done (and will continue to do) my best to avoid anyone having to pay these charges, so if you have been asked to pay more please do get in touch with me and provide some details so I can look for a way to avoid it happening again.
Additional policies and FAQs
Night Cat is very pleased to meet your needs for custom pieces of jewellery or other items from pet collars to jewellery boxes, whether it's something as simple as having a name printed onto one of our existing items or crafting something entirely new for you.

Please contact me via the custom product form or via www.night-cat.co.uk if you wish to have changes made or if you want to commission a new product. Provide as many details as you can about what you'd like and I will get back to you with a quote and timeframe for the alteration/build within 2 working days. Since I want to ensure the item you receive is the item you want, further communication may be required to clarify certain points before I begin the design/build process. You won't be charged by me until the design/build process itself begins, so any communication up until I actually start making the item is entirely free.

Customised, altered, or specially made items (including rings and other items sized to fit you) cannot be returned for a refund since they cannot be resold, but if there are any problems with such items I will do my best to help you resolve them. Keeping customers like you happy is the highest priority.

Please note that customisation cannot be applied to limited line items, as each item in the line must remain recognisably as from that same line (these items are numbered). Unique and unlimited items can be customised in a large number of ways, so get in touch! For more details of what's possible, take a look at the commissions page at www.night-cat.co.uk.

Please note that your statutory rights are not affected by the above terms in any way.

RETAILERS -
If you would like to order multiple items for resale, please contact me before placing your order and I would be happy to arrange a wholesale discount for you. Discounts start for orders of 5 pieces upwards and are very flexible, and ranges of custom-made items can also be discounted for resale. The primary objective for retailers is to be competitive with the online marketplace, so the discounts offered will never force you to price items above their sale price on this shop, ensuring that you can both make a profit and remain competitive. If you would like to place an order of 10+ items I will recalculate delivery to ensure you get the best price on this too.

Point Of Sale displays can also be created for your needs, from £10 upwards, to enable you to display Night Cat pieces with prominence in your shop. These displays will be handmade from wood to your specifications and will display the Night Cat logo and website address. Further information can also be included such as your shop name and/or logo.

Custom listings will be created for you once we have agreed on terms so that you can purchase everything you need in one single transaction, backed by the security of Etsy.
Privacy
I do not keep any of your personal information once the sale is complete. Information provided via Etsy will remain on the site (ie name, address, etc) in my seller records but will not be copied or sent on to other companies or individuals at any point, with the exception of the Royal Mail (who will obviously receive your name & address to make the delivery).

I will not email you unless you email me, & emails sent to me will remain in my records but will not be shared with any third parties, ever.
