About

Addicted to Ink

I’ve always loved art and have tinkered with tie-dye, acrylic painting, oil painting, pastels, polymer clay, lampworking, woodworking and more. When I decided to turn my hobbies into a money making venture, one of the hardest decisions was deciding what medium to focus on. I love them all!

In the beginning, I only knew whatever I chose, that it needed to be colorful, as my favorite thing of all is playing with color. I initially started working with polymer clay, but a wicked case of carpel tunnel derailed me. I rooted through my art supplies to see what I could do for my ‘art fix’ while I waited for my surgery date to arrive. Easter was approaching and I stumbled upon a site with Easter Eggs painted with alcohol ink. I had inks on hand already because a) I am an art supply addict and b) I had read that alcohol inks are great to use with polymer clay.

So I started painting with alcohol ink and very quickly fell completely in love with the vivid transparent colors. When I finally set up a table at my first arts and craft show, I decided to set out a basket with some of my eggs to sell along with my clay trinkets. I quickly discovered the wild, colorful Easter eggs were sucking all the attention away from my clay items. People started referring to me as the ‘Egg Lady’.

For a time, I considered putting the eggs on a separate table from the clay so my clay items would have a chance, but then I realized a better solution would be to find more things to paint with ink. Ink is kind of funny because it works beautifully on some items, and not so well with others. I eventually discovered it works beautifully on switch plates.

It has been an adventure getting to where I am, and I look forward to seeing where this adventure continues to take me!
