The cute book wall pocket arrived quickly and safely. This is a very smart idea! The "Kindled Flames" pocket is now in service next to my bedside to hold my phone at night and while charging: it convently keeps my cats from making a chew toy out of the charging cable. Thank you!
I've been creating "stuff for a long time, for many years only as gift items for my family and friends. I liked to make soft sculpture items for friends and their children. A few years ago--maybe 15 years now--I participated in a group show at the local arts center on the theme of Gardens. That's when I made my first Slug figurine, and wouldn't you know it, they sold quickly! Something about a slug, makes people laugh when they see it. Around the same time I started crafting my Neener Beaners necklaces, inspired by one I had made for my mother in the 80's out of some old costume jewelry that I covered with fabric. I eventually went to college and studied art, graduating at 40 from Smith College in Northampton MA, which I attended as an Ada Comstock scholar. I have never lacked for inspiration once I dedicate my efforts to the studio.
What you see in my shop is also for sale in my little brick and mortar shop in Turners Falls MA where I live. Much of my artwork features Turners Falls, but I don't feel like the specific locale matters so much as a certain feeling one gets from an older, slightly declined and down at the heels New England mill town that I have tried to convey in various mediums. My little shop on the main street there is called Nina's Nook and is 5 feet by 20 feet long. It is a magical little space that is as individualistic as my art. You might consider it an art installation in its own right, actually.
Nina's Novelties on Etsy is an extension of this magical spot into the Internet, for folks who might never visit our little town to discover online. Although now Etsy is huge, somehow you have spotted me and are reading this little story: welcome to my world, and I hope you will take a piece of it home!
