Sleep should be a priority.
Over 20 years ago I was devastated by extreme fatigue, headaches, and flu-like achiness that hit me daily and left me with no strength to take care of my toddler and infant sons. It took two years, four specialists, and too many tests to count before my physician diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is regarded as a condition that is part of the Rheumatology family. Although it comes with many different symptoms, it is diagnosed from musculoskeletal pain in tender points on both sides of the body. Symptoms often begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant stress. Sometimes symptoms occur with no trigger.
When I have a Fibro-flair, I feel I have the flu. I ache all over and my muscles are sore. I have Tactile Allodynia which means any touch on my skin can cause pain. Wearing a bra or laying on a textured blanket is agonizing. I also develop painful muscle knots in my arms or back that take months to alleviate, sometimes landing me in the emergency room with spasms. Inflammation in my joints, seconded by arthritis, makes my fingers, hips, and knees burn. I also experience night sweats which are uncomfortable and inconvenient.
There is no cure for Fibromyalgia, and although I manage my symptoms with medication, diet, and exercise, I develop a Fibro-flair at least once a month that lasts for several days. The best course of action is rest. I will retreat to my bed, where it is quiet, dark, and warm and I can sleep until my body recovers from its fatigue.
Sleep is one of the best ways for a body to heal. In fact, healthy sleep patterns have been linked to decreasing inflammation and improving immune function, while poor sleep is linked to depression, heart disease and diabetes risks. Yet, despite the importance of a restful and fulfilling sleep, one out of three people either have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or awakening too early.
When a person has chronic pain, pain disrupts healthy sleep, and lack of sleep increases pain. It is a vicious cycle. Sleep is a natural way to heal, yet sleep is often elusive. This is why I have decided to make sleep a priority. I am determined to help others by providing sleepwear products that soothe, comfort, and promote longer periods of uninterrupted rest.
My soft, light sleep masks are a delight to make and I wear mine often when I have headaches or pain. My silky moisture wicking pajama pants are made for night sweats and casual wear. And finally, because humor is a powerful medicine, I have included iconic pillow cases that I know will make my customers smile.
Fibromyalgia is a debilitating condition that often stops me from being active, Sleep is my salvation, healing me and recharging my strength. By combining my love for sewing and my need for quality sleepwear, I am proud to present my NMYPJZ products. Thank you for supporting me and always consider shopping small businesses.
And always, Sweet Dreams.
