About

There is no other book like this one. That's how you should feel about every book that you own.

ALL PRICES NEGOTIABLE. :)

With my Library and Information Science degree and my work history in all facets of the world of books, including my antique and rare book dealings to my library and archives experience, along with all the old or new books I have read and bought just so I could own them, I've known and believed this for ages. Still, only certain people get it.

Your bookshelves should be beautiful to you, breathe history (yours or others), and should reflect what you love. Buying a book you are looking to own the way it made you feel when you read it, what it made you think. They are a part of you, the books that connect to you in that deep way, the ones you want to own instead of borrow. The bookshelves you have, or cases displayed, or the piles you have spread all across the room, these should catch eyes, pull stares, and express in a fully unique way what you love to read because this expresses you.

This is what I've tried to do here as both a photographer and writer--to show the specialness of each and every book, so you can see yourself there, even a little bit.

Love coffee? I'm sure you have a million different mugs that all make up a piece of who you are, sitting out in the kitchen or on your bedside table. Love a country? I'm sure you've been there, or have dreamy plans to go there someday, have a million souvenirs or pictures up on the walls, your phone or computer background, anything to surround yourself with what is such a strong part of what makes you, you.

So in a way you are already here in my shop. A part of you is, and just waiting for you now.

These are no common copies or millionth reprints. Some are first editions, some older copies worn in just the right ways, copies handed down through families or inscribed by mysterious people you don't know. Some are even signed by the author or someone close to them, some are illustrated editions and signed by the illustrator, and some are one of just a few copies that were ever printed, one lasting remnant of however many are left out there in the world.

These are the books I want you to have. And these are the books I have.

I'm so looking forward to giving them on and to you. I cannot tell you as a librarian how much I love recommending a read to someone, and when they come back to me with book in hand, ready to return, excited and already telling me they ran out to buy it because they need to have it physically for themselves. Don't be hasty, though, because not every copy is...well...the copy. Your copy.

There is no other book like this one. You can say it to yourself when you pick it up and feel its past and all that lies within it and behind it. In a way, when you buy a book from this shop you are claiming a stake in the story you hold, the story that has already staked its claim in your mind and heart, or the one you want to explore for the first time.

Books last because there is something undeniably special about the rare, the vintage, the antique--not just the way the pages smell, which some people are drawn to--but the fact of its existence.

There is no other book like this one.
Buy it here and cherish it forever.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Absolutely! I'm willing to do anything to get this book to you, but I will not write on it. If it is not in the condition you want, I know preservation techniques and will certainly oblige as best I can. You just need to let me know.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I will wrap the book any way you want. It is special and so are you, you deserve it! I will also write cards, include photographs, anything you'd like that would make this transaction more, well, you.

Care instructions

I won't tell you how to care for your book, but as to how they are cared for now, they are housed in two places -- some are wrapped in plastic in my main room in the part of the house that used to be a quaint B&B, lined on lovely old wooden bookshelves; others are stacked in piles or leaning on cool, creative and different bookends all round the room, and all are given care, attention, and kept away from my dog :)

Others sit in my library, in built-in authentic 1800s wooden and glass-door library shelves that line the walls in a secluded room in a historic home on the shore. With vintage, warm lamplights over the tiny marble fireplace, the library's windows catch plenty of sunlight--the books are in good homes and will arrive undamaged.

My book came later than the shipping information said (3-5 business days). Why?

If the book comes later than expected this does not mean it was sent late. Every book is sent within 1-3 business days, unless one of the days is a Sunday, then it could be an extra day. This applies to International orders as well, but they might take longer to get to you than in-country orders. If there is a problem, please bring it up with UPS or see Etsy's policies.

What if I want a certain book not listed?

I am more than willing to hunt down a specific book for you. This can take time, however, and would be a matter of personal back-and-forth on the site so you would have to keep in contact. There is no guarantee. I'm good at finding things however, and if I cannot find it to sell to you myself I will direct you to where I can find it online, if I can.

Important to note, however, that I may have it in my holdings already so it ALWAYS helps to check in with me. Listings come up continually, and it may just be waiting here to get processed and put up.

I have specific, significant problem with the book or transaction.

Contact me directly via the site and I will do my absolute best to help correct it. There should be no problems.

You're cool! I want to get in touch with you about a job or something.

Always willing to make new friends and take on new jobs or opportunities -- this business does not stop me from working a full or part time job, and I am currently looking, so please contact me! Dempseylynch@gmail.com. I am definitely interested in talking with you and love meeting new people (especially book lovers of course).

Are prices negotiable?

Sure! Although the books are priced the way they are and are worth that amount based on a lot of factors (condition compared to others available online, if there are any available online or if it is the only one, age and whether it is signed or special in some way, etc.) I am always willing to hear you out as to why you think the books price is off, and work with you as best I can. I cannot guarantee the price will change, that is bad for my business, but I will listen to you. Don't be afraid to reach out. The worst that can happen is I will say no.

I put the reasons behind my pricing method for each item at the end of the listing so check that out if you're curious too :)
