Frequently asked questions

How do I indicate the colors and numbers for my house number order?

Tell us in the Notes field in the cart. We always check in to confirm your colors and numbers before we begin.

Are your house numbers safe for outdoors?

Yes. We use slate as the base, waterproof glue and seal the grout for stain resistance. We advise using anchor screws to fasten securely to your house.

Custom and personalized orders

We are glad to create custom work. Please send a convo through Etsy we will give you a quote, and then create a custom listing for you on Etsy.

Where can I see more examples of colors and designs?

We have many more photos of house numbers, words and milestone gifts at our Nutmeg Designs Flickr site:

How do I install my Nutmeg Designs House Number?

Use stainless steel or brass screws, designed for your cladding. Masonry requires anchors.

Place plaque at the level you wish to see it, and mark inside the holes with a pencil where you plan to drill.

Drill pilot holes, and insert anchors(if masonry), then line your plaque’s predrilled holes with the pilot ones, and insert screws, hand tightening just until snug, and taking care not to put pressure on the slate. Rubber washers may be used to help cushion the contact points.

Consult your local hardware store for guidance regarding type of screws, drill bits and rubber washers.

What is your turnaround time and process for House Numbers?

House Numbers are 6-8 weeks turnaround.

After receiving your order, we put it on our studio whiteboard. When you are close to the top of the queue, we check in to confirm colors and numbers. In the meantime, you are welcome to ask any questions or send photos of your house or color names.

Wayne designs and cuts the numbers, glues them to slate, and then hands it over to Margaret for the background.

Margaret glues as she goes, gauging how each piece relates to the next, then comes grouting, sealing, and cleaning. Each sign is cocooned in bubblewrap and cardboard before putting in another box for extra cushioning.

We ship by USPS Priority Mail within the US and to Canada.
