Returns and exchanges
I want you to be happy with whatever you find here at Obsidian Kitten. If for any reason you’re dissatisfied with your purchase, please contact me and we’ll work toward a resolution.

That said, I have several operating principles that I hope will help things to run smoothly.

A. “It’s Not What I Expected”

Art and handcrafted items are very difficult to represent in words and photos: that’s why we make tactile objects. So if an item arrives and it isn’t what you expected from my photos, description, and measurements, we can arrange an exchange for an item that better suits you. In this case, if I feel that my description and photos are indeed at fault, you simply return the item to me and I will pay for the shipping of the new item back to you.

If, however, the item is as described and I feel that my description and photos were *not* at fault, you will pay for the shipping (both ways), but an exchange will still be arranged.

In either event, if you choose an item of lesser value, I will of course refund the difference to you. If you choose a more expensive item, you can simply pay the difference and I’ll ship the new item to you.

If you feel that there is no suitable exchange, and can return the item to me *in its original condition* (i.e. your cat has not eaten half of it, you didn’t stomp on it in a fit of anger, etc.) and wish to pay for return shipping, I will accept your return and refund your payment less my original shipping costs. *Note that because I've already included the cost of North American shipping in my prices, this means I will have to deduct the cost of having sent the item to you in the first place if you live in the US or Canada.*

I will refund your money upon receipt of the returned item. I feel that this fairly covers all possible dissatisfactions, even buyer’s remorse, so rest assured that if you get something and you really don’t like it, I will accept a return and you can get an exchange or refund.

B. “It Arrived Damaged”

Ugh! Well, we hope this never happens, but occasionally crummy things do happen in the post. I may request documentation (like a photo) so I can see what exactly happened to your item, and so I can prevent it from happening in the future.

Generally my items can be repaired, so I will pay for return shipping, repair the item, and return it to you at my expense. In dire circumstances, an exchange or refund will be arranged.

C. “It Didn’t Arrive”

If your package actually fails to arrive *at the address you provided* (and in 18 years of shipping items I’ve encountered a hopelessly lost parcel perhaps once) after a period of forty days, I will refund *half* of your purchase price.

D. Cards and Vintage Items

For what I hope are obvious reasons, I can’t accept exchanges or refunds on cards or vintage items.

I mean, you could (not that you would, of course) scan or color Xerox all my cards, paper your yard with them, then say you didn’t like them and send them back for a refund.

As for the vintage buttons and fabrics, they’re supplies being sold "as-is." I try to be extremely thorough in my descriptions, dimensions, etc. I suppose if you had a *really* good reason for wanting to return something—if, for example, I grossly misrepresented it—that would be fair grounds for a return or exchange. (Please don’t tell me you don’t like the buttons because they’re old...) Any returns or exchanges in the supplies category are solely at my discretion.
I will ship your item(s) as soon as your payment is received.
I use the USPS for shipping. If you would like to make other shipping arrangements, just send me a convo.

Since my prices include the shipping costs within the US and Canada, I *don’t* include tracking and insurance.

If you would like me to track and insure your package, I will calculate the cost and let you know what it is.

If your order totals over $75, I will automatically track and insure your package at no additional cost to you.
Additional policies and FAQs
I. Free Gift Wrap and Gift Shipping

I will happily personalize any gift and wrap it for you for free. I’ll see that your gift is lovingly wrapped and shipped in a timely manner—at no additional cost to you in the US and Canada, and according to the listed International shipping price.

Just request gift wrap and personalization with your order, and be sure to provide all the relevant details (recipient’s name and address) as well as the occasion (i.e. birthday, anniversary, etc.) if there is a special event to note.

If you would like to select a card from the shop, I’ll gladly inscribe it with your message—any message you like—and enclose it with your gift.

II. Personalized Cards—Free!

If you’d like to send a special someone a card, I’d be happy to write in your message and mail your card for you as well—at no extra charge, just the cost of the stamp to your recipient’s address.

III. Custom Orders

I enjoy custom orders, whether it’s a basket in a particular fiber or color, or a special card you’d like me to create for you. Simply contact me and I’d be pleased to talk with you more about it.
