We like to make smiles.
This series of small sculptures had its origins while Andrew was working in the jewelry industry. His days were spent mold-making, casting and manipulating wax and silver to bring designed collections from concept to production. Having developed an aptitude and interest in both small scale precision and reproduction, Andrew utilized this general approach to explore and create sculptural gifts for family and friends. A few quirky faces quickly snowballed into something with more potential than he had first expected. In 2008 Olander Earthworks was born. The project and business continued to evolve as more series were developed within the framework of cement casting. When he needed a change from humans he made animals; when he needed a change from wall hangings he made heads. When he needed a break from facial forms altogether he created a line of sand spheres and modern zen boxes, which currently has its own Shopify store. We are proud to offer three of four distinct sculptural lines on Etsy that embody Andrew's sense of humor, meticulousness, and affinity for play & wonder.
For the last couple years Olander Earthworks has kept Andrew busy full-time and he is now supported by a couple talented assistants who help produce this work. Andrew's wife Sarah jumped in recently to collaborate and help manage the many facets of this growing business. Sarah's art background coupled with a decade of administrative experience helps Andrew stay on track (at least most of the time). Andrew's pre-disposition to toiling away in the studio hasn't lent this venture to an online venue until now! With Sarah's help, we’ve begun building our online shop. Check back often for updates, additions, and new product lines.
Olander Earthworks is run out of a home studio in Portland, OR. On the weekends from March-December, Andrew can often be found at the Portland Saturday Market & his work is represented at several venues around the United States. Product Care Info
Any abrasive action on your cement sculpture can change the surface qualities. We recommend handling with care. We do not recommend submerging these products for any extended time, but they can be displayed outdoors. If displayed outdoors, there may be a subtle fading of color over the years and it's recommended that sculptures be brought indoors during wet season or extreme temperatures, especially if they are in full exposure to the elements.
Buyers & Retailers: We’re open to wholesale orders. Please e-mail us with an idea of what you’re thinking and we’ll give you our current availability, lead times and pricing.
