My Story, My Mission, My Passion
Oli Rose Collection is a brand that embraces leather heritage.Leather-wears inspired by nature and the Southwestern spirit.
Handmade as oppose to a factory moil of mass production is what makes Oli Rose Collection much different. A brand that ignites the discerning customer that knows my product will be a part of their life for years, not just a season or two. It is a wearable art of intention, purpose and meaning. Our souls long for the connection of authenticity from crafter to owner and that is the relationship I achieve to create.
About the designer:
My name is Cassandra Silva. I am the owner and designer of Oli Rose Collection.
I grew up in the little mountain town of Crestline, CA located in the San Bernardino mountains. Many moons later I have come to find residence in the high desert of Phelan, CA. My Collection has a very strong influence from my surroundings. My visions embrace the Southwest, vast desert landscapes and beautiful nature.
My fascination of jewelry began when I was a child. My grandmother had a collection of American Indian jewelry from her travels with my grandfather. She would let me dress up with a few costume pieces that were mine when I would visit. The older I became the more my grandmother would reveal her entire shrine of treasured jewelry and tell me stories of where she was, relationships built, what tribe the pieces had been made and what her and my grandfather were doing at that time. With each piece and each story I became more and more fascinated with this specific genre, that being American Indian jewelry. The seed was planted. I knew one day I was going to make glorious jewelry for myself and others. It excites me to know that my leatherwear's' will too create their timeline in people's lives and have a positive impact.
What prompted me to do leather verses any other medium of jewelry making?
My husband Daniel Silva of Crazy Heart Leather was a huge influence with the material of ( leather). I wouldn't say I found leather, I'd say leather found me. I was 7 years deep in a corporate job, and became pregnant with my first born Olivia Rose, as we like to call her "Oli" (oh-lee). After the first time I held her in my arms, everything changed. Nothing else was as important as this beautiful being that was in my presence. With working full-time in a management position I was in a constant tug-of-war. I wanted to spend more time and be at home with Oli but I wanted to provide for her as well. Meanwhile, my husband had started to take off tooling leather on the side of tattooing. With more and more exposure to leather, the more a curiosity developed. I thought maybe this is the craft that will enable me to spend more time with my family and enrich the artistic haven that was dormant inside of me and this could be a win~win situation. More time to with my family and more time to create.
I made and sold my first leather cuff in 2008. I was completely ecstatic. I loved the reaction my products received and from there Oli Rose Collection was born. Inspired by my loving daughter who reignited that flame inside of me. My first pieces are completely comical but never forgotten. We all have to start somewhere. I'd found my niche. It felt so natural to work with leather and I was compelled to revisit my childhood memories of times spent with my grandmother and incorporate memories into my leather-wears. My mind was working overtime. I had now found a place where I could be passionate and creatively free. My husband was generous to take the time and show me the basics. His level of tooling is far beyond the style I have embraced. I am more of a geometric stamper. His artistic talent is more modern traditional style of leather-tooling. I used to embellish old belts, purses, etc. One evening my husband said, "try stamping Cass." Funny enough, I refused at first. I didn't want anything to do with stamping. I felt the leather I was using was already done, aged and has a history. It was one less thing I had to worry about. Well one afternoon I decided with the burning curiosity that I was going to stamp a little something. From the first pound on the leather from the mallet, I was hooked! It was challenging, new, I loved the way the leather felt. It was like a ballpoint pen on a stack of newspapers. Night after night Daniel would educate me, push me, be my cheerleader, my coach. He aided my growth in many ways. I soon became a stamp fanatic. The designs that appear in my head cannot be explained but are highly influenced from my grandmother's jewelry, my hippy days and of course our Mother's nature. I love to put shapes together. The kaleidoscope was always one of my favorite toys as a child and still to this day, I love kaleidoscopes. Mandalas are another one of my favorite forms of art and I love love Art Deco as well. Those who love Oli Rose I feel share the same interests.

Additional policies and FAQs
I thought that this tab was crucial to add to the website as I am asked all the time about sizing and how to order correctly.
The biggest disappointment is receiving something that you ordered and it doesn't fit. Well this information is here to help you and I make sure that we are on the same page and that your piece(s) are perfectly perfect.
Ring Sizing: I ask that you order true to your size. I've "fingered" out the correct way to size to fit true in working with leather. Leather does stretch a little but not too significantly. I do take that into consideration when I am sizing the leather ring. When you receive your ring it may be a little snug but after a week or two it'll conform to your finger and fit like a glove.
Leather Cuff sizing: It is crucial that you measure your wrist correctly when placing your order. I've attached a picture of how I would like you to size you wrist. Make sure the measure tape or what ever you choose is not around your wrist too tight and slightly above the wrist bone. I need that true measurement. I've worked long and hard to achieve the correct formula to size my leather cuffs depending on what style they are and the choice of leather I use. Please make sure you follow instructions on how to size your wrist properly. There are some styles that cannot be resized and others that can. Resizing fees can become costly due to what it entails, so getting it right the first time will save a lot of trouble. Please refer to the photo below for the proper way to measure your wrist. I size to allow comfortability. There will be a little wiggle room so it is a healthy fit.
If you have any additional questions please fill out question form at bottom of this page. We'll get back to you in a timely manner.
This is one of the most important piece of advice I can give you in order for your Oli Rose Collection piece(s) to maintain their integrity and last for generations.
Heres what needs to be taken into consideration......
* WATER- is the enemy. Your new product is made of leather. If the product is saturated in water it'll compromise the stain and the tooling's detail. I use a "water resistant wax" on the product but it does not mean the leatherwear is waterproof.
* Where to store- Store your leather piece in a shaded area. Direct sunlight for long periods of time will compromise the stain and cause the piece to dry or even crack. It's leather, it's skin, so treat is as you would your own skin. From time to time it'll need a little hydration. I personally use a rejuvenator or leather conditioning wax to bring back the matte shine, that richness we all experience when the new ring or cuff arrives at our doorstep.
Here are a series of questions that are thrown my way and I am happy to be able to answer them for you.
When should I expect my order?
Do to the nature of my production all rings, cuffs and bangles are "made to order". I do from time to time have pieces that are reay to size and ship. Most of these pieces are OOAK.
Rings: take anywhere from 2-3 weeks for turn around depending on workload.
Leather Cuffs: take anywhere from 3-4 weeks depending on my worklaod and if the cuff is part of my Core Collection (which can be replicated) or if it's a custom order it could take longer.
Bangles: take anywhere from 1-2 weeks depending on workload.
If you have anymore questions please feel free to reach out.
*How should I size my finger due to the product being leather?
Please refer to my How to Order/ Sizing info above.
*Why is my ring a little tight?
Due to the nature of the ring being leather I compensate for minor stretching that will occur over the duration of time. It will stretch a little bit but not too significantly. I've worked long and hard on a formula to fit true to size.
*There's a film that comes off on my finger from the leather ring, is this normal?
Yes, I apply a coating on the backside of the ring ( the part that touches your skin) to create a barrier between the skin to skin. It'll eventually will not rub off on your finger, it'll go away after 2 or three uses. Leather can become very smelly after awhile by absorbing your oils from your skin causing an unpleasant odor. The coating acts as a barrier so your ring's hygiene will be good. lol
*How do the leather rings fasten?
I fasten my leather rings with a metal rivet. It is not a snap!
*Where do the vintage pieces come from that you put on your leather cuffs and rings?
I've been collecting vintage jewelry for awhile. I acquire the jewelry from my travels to CO, NV, NM, AZ and also online auctions I attend. I buy from very reputable buyers and collectors. I go to estate sales in desired areas and of course I've found some great pieces from IG. I am very juried when it comes to buying my pieces. A majority of my vintage jewelry I find is damaged wether it be the band broke, minor abrasions and cracked stones, I want to find new intention for these beautiful pieces that will most likely be thrown in a drawer or sit in a jewelry box never to be worn.
Recently my husband has taken on silver-smithing and we are starting to work together on pieces. Our Collection is called the "Union Collection" check us out. Were located on one of the drop downs located at top of webpage.
*What kind of leather do you use?
I use European vegetable-tanned leather.
What's veg tanned leather?
Vegetable-tanned leather is tanned using tannins and other ingredients found in different vegetable matter, such as tree bark prepared in bark mills, wood, leaves, fruits, and roots. It is super supple.
Advantages of vegetable tanning:
Vegetable tanning is environmentally friendly; meaning any leather products that have been vegetable tanned can be recycled
Vegetable tanning is an age old tradition, so most tanneries have very skilled craftsmen producing and dyeing the leather
Due to the natural tannins used, vegetable tanned products are unique and have their own life, they are not the same for their entire life, but they change, continuously, for the better
The colors that vegetable tanning produces are rich and warm tones that look completely natural
Vegetable tanned leathers are more valuable and thus sold at a higher average price compared to chrome tanned leathers.
