About

Light hearted surprises for all occasions.

I originally started Ollipop Greetings in the fall of 2005 as a student project in art school. As an Alaskan born artist and transplant to the creative community of Portland, Oregon, I was looking to exercise my artistic expression in an accessible way. Greeting cards seemed like the perfect every-day solution to making pretty little surprises. The original cards were all cut out from water color and designer paper, and little polka dots were painstakingly hole punched and glued onto them along with other little drawings and found cut outs. My original "logo" was just a handwritten scribble of a lollipop that spelled out 'Ollipop,' as a play on 'Olly' which was a nickname one of my friends gave me several years prior.

Fast forward a few years, in the fall of 2009, I began experimenting with graphic design. Though very basic, I designed a set of Christmas cards that I sent out to all of my friends and family that year. Upon receipt of these cards, a few of my crafting friends turned me on to etsy.com and encouraged me to give the 'handmade movement' a try.

I wasn't really sure how to get started at first, but the kindness of the Etsy community really astounded me when I was featured on thehandmademovement.com as a fresh seller! Once I started getting involved in Etsy, I was hooked. From the friendly and accessible newsletters to the beautiful treasuries and inspiring shop owners, I really enjoyed perusing the site and reading about independent minded artists across the globe.

My designs tend to draw inspiration from random sources. My newest line is called 'boyfriend humor' and it draws from the witty humorous things that come out of my boyfriends sheer hilarity. Sometimes I see a vintage card that I want to re-create, or a dessert tray in a bakery that inspires a color scheme for a card... I've even based designs off of a dress that I saw window shopping!

Most of my designs transpire out of late night brain storming sessions. By nature, I am a night owl and once I get an idea, I can't sleep until I can get it all out! Sometimes ideas are born out of snippets of ideas that reside dormant in my 'in progress' folder for months until one day the final design is realized. Ultimately, I create things that I think are girly and cute or that bring a smile to my face, hoping that I can share that joy with someone else!

I especially love collaborating with people and creating custom orders for etsy shoppers too! I love knowing that someone enjoyed what I created so much to use them at their wedding or for their child's birthday! Valentine's day is of course my favorite holiday of all; creating custom Valentines that I know someone is giving a loved one is such an intimate request and feels like quite an honor.

I have recently started experimenting with jewelry design and making jewelry boxes... My love of salvaging vintage items and giving them a re-birth is a testament to sustainability by reducing waste and creating treasures out of discarded or broken items. My jewelry making was born out of re-purposing an old bulky beaded bracelet into several pairs of gorgeous earrings. My jewelry drawers are hand crafted out of both new materials as well as discarded, broken jewelry boxes that have been refinished for a new generation. Nearly all of the fabric that I use to upholster my jewelry drawers is salvaged from discontinued design studio memo samples.I am not sure where my shop will evolve to next, but for now I am content creating things that I love and if someone chooses to purchase them, I am grateful.

Ollipop Greetings was founded on the premise of creating whimsical and beautiful cards you'll want to hold onto for years. Inspired by vintage/retro images, each card was designed by hand in the home studio. Any of the designs can be personalized for a minimal additional fee if you don't find exactly what you're looking for! We strive for high quality products, printing greeting cards on high quality pearlescent card stock. Art prints are professionally printed on archival paper to ensure your piece lasts for years of enjoyment! Most items are made per order, so there is typically a two day lead time involved.
