About

Spend time with the materials and they'll tell you what the best thing to make is

When people I ask me what I do I say I make things. Making things by hand has perhaps been the singe constant in my life since early childhood. I moved form country to country, people came and went, jobs and hobbies, but I was always making things. I come from a country of small means and to 'make do and mend', as English say, was a fact of life. I've learnt very early to sew, knit, embroider, but also build, saw, paint and grow. That's what I'd reach out to when I had spare time, or was ill. You have nothing, bunch of random stuff and then, with a bit of time, a bit of brains – puff! There's an object to enjoy and be proud of. Fascinating!

Since moving to England I made making a full time occupation. First I was making art. Then I was making furniture with a wonderful furniture designer Michael Armstrong. We formed a duo and called it GRAIN. There's a shop here on Etsy http://www.graindesignuk.etsy.com, go check it out. We made very simple, Japan and Scandianvian inspired (I lived in Sweden before coming to UK and I still think they got it right up North, when it comes to design) tables, trays and lamps. But then there was a need to make something more colourful, something of my own. Something I couldn't find for myself but was sure I was able to make. So I started making jewellery.

If you have read this far you probably understand that I like venturing into different fields of craftsmanship. Jewellery is only a starting point for Oll (pronounced as 'all'). Oll is a brand, it is an aesthetic. Plans are in place to use the furniture making experience to produce a line of interior accessories as well as fashion accessories, such as bags, scarves, sunglasses etc. Oll brand is built on foundation of passion for minimalist art and modern architecture. I get EXCITED by geometry, clean lines, sharp edges, by pure colour, abstraction. Small means to great effect. I hope you do too.

Frequently asked questions

What is polymer?

Polymer clay is a non-toxic material, made primarily of a type of plastic resin. It will crack if put under excess pressure, and can be scratched by sharp objects so please bear this in mind when wearing this piece.

How to care for metal part of my pieces?

The metal we use in our pieces is gently waxed to slow patination and tarnishing. Over time brass, copper and stainless steel will become darker and richer, developing a unique patina. To restore the original shine we recommend that you gently clean the metal with a polishing cloth or a gentle polishing compound. Newly polished metal can be waxed with Renaissance Wax to protect the surface and avoid further tarnish.
All jewellery is best stored in a box or another container to avoid scratches and discolouration. Keeping metal jewellery air tight will slow down the rate at which it develops a patina.

How to take care of the polymer parts of my items?

Our jewellery is splash proof but please avoid direct contact with perfume, creams and other sprays as these may cause discolouration. It is easy to clean the polymer parts with water and gentle detergent, like hand soap. For stubborn stains you may use a cotton bud soaked in nail polish remover carefully and at your own risk. Do not use any abrasives as this will alter the finish of the pieces, but if they do scratch you can gently sand those elements with fine grade wet and dry paper. To restore their lustre we recommend polishing with a soft cloth.
All jewellery is best stored in a box or another container to avoid scratches and discolouration.

Custom and personalised orders

We love working on custom orders! We will be very happy to develop a different colour way for any item for a small additional fee. If you want to personalise an existing design or ask us to create something unique just for you we are looking forward to receiving your proposal! Please get in touch using the options provided by Etsy website.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All our jewellery is packaged in black recycled card boxes sealed with a logo band.

If you want your item gift wrapped we can arrange that for a small additional fee.

We are working on offering eco options that will be re-/upcyclable or use less materials but still keep the items safe in the post. If you have a suggestion about a better packaging options we'd love to hear from you

What is gold fill?

Gold filled is an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal. Gold-filled is usually a lifetime product because the gold layer bonded to the brass core is quite thick (5% of total weight). Gold filled is much more valuable and tarnish resistant. It does not flake off, rub off or turn colors. As a matter of fact, anyone who can wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewellery. Gold filled jewelry is an economical alternative to solid gold!
Caring for Gold Filled items is as easy as caring for any gold jewelry. Simply keep away from chemicals, clean regularly with mildly sudsy water, rinse well and pat dry with a non-scratching cloth. Polish gently with a jewelry polishing cloth.
