About

Nothing motivates like a crummy job...

In the Fall of 2010 I experienced a rash of signs to get out of the city; contract changes, slow business, massive loss of work hours and a flooded basement apartment. I was so distraught I felt I had to move home from Washington, DC and leave my city life as a personal trainer, massage therapist and artist and do whatever I had to to keep paying my bills.
Just as I moved, I got lucky and found a full-time seasonal job right away... night shift on a shipping dock. *womp womp* I ended up working there for a mind numbing 10 months. During that time I met some great people (amazing artists trying to earn a living, just doing what seemed necessary). One friend in particular and I started talking about how cool it would be to create an Etsy store, we dreamed of starting up a shop and quitting the photo lab. Our plan was to make tiny stuffed animals of made up creatures out of recycled materials. All the further I ever got was to setup the Etsy account, chose the apt shop name and designed a logo. Then the account sat for about 2 months.
One day my mom asked me if I'd be able to sell a few things on eBay for her, they were all vintage items she was getting rid of from her China cabinet. I agreed to do it, but decided Etsy would be a fun venue to explore.
From there, my mom and I took our enjoyment of treasure hunting to the next level and built up our shop ever since. In August 2011 I quit my job to go back to work as a contractor in DC and spend more time improving the Etsy shop. Since then I got another full-time job and moved back to the metro area, and dreamed of self employment for over two years. I finally quit that job in November of 2013 after some brutal health hurdles and am now back in school studying science and fully self-employed as the owner of two Etsy shoppes, a start-up food manufacturing business, a wedding photography business, and student of science. My awesome Mom is still my right hand in treasure hunting, researching and shipping!

Namaste!!
