About

once upon a time one who weaves was born

I teach, I weave. I learn from my students work, they learn from me. I love experimenting in color and fiber which is why most of my products for sale are so diverse in skill and pattern. when my family of six went into financial difficulty I decided to set up an etsy shop. I have six looms at my tiny home studio and I am always working on one at the weaving center i teach at (www.abkweavingcenter.org.) Rarely is there a loom empty. I also do outreach to the community through demonstrations, residencies in at risk schools, art enrichment programs, and even with my own children. I enter my work to be shown in gallery settings in which I also push my work into the fiber art category. I am an award winning weaver. In 2013 I placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in Wisconsin's State Fair in three different categories, my first entries in a fair, ever. In 2014 I placed 1st in two categories and 3rd in another. My rugs and scarves won the awards. Recently, I have been working on a series of rugs inspired by Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I love to experiment. It's evident in the variety of work i create. Some processes take a longer time to achieve. For example a rep style rug has many more threads that go through the loom, or a blanket that is woven with thinner yarn, opposed to rag rugs which can be woven quickly, if I don't have to prepare the rags. I really enjoy weaving but love the experimentation even more.
