About

Designs for Scientists

Prior to designing jewelry, I was a postdoctoral researcher in biochemistry. In my scientific life, I had the opportunity to work with many different organisms including Arabidopsis, arugula, sage, slugs, locusts, flea beetles and caterpillars. I appreciate how scientists identify with their organism. At Ontogenie, I design jewelry and objects that are inspired not only by the symbiosis between scientist and organism, but also by the intricate and iconic patterns and shapes that can only be found in nature. The designs in my shop are sculpted by hand in the virtual world of my computer and then created with 3D-printing technology in silver, bronze, brass, stainless steel or nylon plastic, one piece at a time.

CUSTOM DESIGN ORDERS. I love it when scientists and science aficionados suggest new organisms for me to sculpt. If I like your idea and turn it into a 3D-design, there is no extra cost to you and the jewelry will be available for purchase by everyone who visits my shop. Custom orders typically require 6-8 weeks for design, prototyping and final casting.

Thank you for visiting Ontogenie, and if you'd like to learn about my new designs and my design process, you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram or visit my website at http://ontogenie.de

I design my jewelry using Blender, a 3D-modeling CAD program, then send my files to Shapeways where my jewelry is produced using 3D-printing technology.
