About

Designs for Scientists

Prior to designing jewelry, I was a postdoctoral researcher in biochemistry. In my scientific life, I had the opportunity to work with many different organisms including Arabidopsis, arugula, sage, slugs, locusts, flea beetles and caterpillars. I appreciate how scientists identify with their organism. At Ontogenie, I design jewelry and objects that are inspired not only by the symbiosis between scientist and organism, but also by the intricate and iconic patterns and shapes that can only be found in nature. The designs in my shop are sculpted by hand in the virtual world of my computer and then created with 3D-printing technology in silver, bronze, brass, stainless steel or nylon plastic, one piece at a time.

If you would like to learn more about my designs and my process, you can visit my website at http://ontogenie.com or follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Frequently asked questions
Delivery time

All of my designs are achieved by 3D printing combined with lost wax casting (all metals) or by selective laser sintering (nylon plastic). If I have the piece you want in stock, I can usually ship it the next day. If it isn't in stock, please allow 3 weeks for printing until I can ship it.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of my pieces are gift wrapped in Ontogenie recycled paper boxes containing shredded wood and finished with twine.

Custom and personalized orders

If you wish to have an existing design altered, i.e., a pendant design converted to earrings, a tie bar or a lapel pin, I am happy to do this at no extra charge.

If you have a design idea for me and are willing to give me the freedom to do it (or not) at my own pace and with my own artistic expression, there is no charge.

If you need a specific design, or you need it by a specific date, or you want to tell me exactly how to do it, this qualifies as a custom order and costs a flat rate of 400 Euro for my design time exclusive of print costs. The cost of the print itself will depend on its size and volume.

I do not accept exclusive designs. If I design something for you, the world gets to see it and the world gets to buy it.
