Opposite of Far :: From the top
This started out as a dream, as many handmade businesses do. I would daydream from my desk at work about creating for a living. I never imagined it would actually happen! I had notebooks full of ideas & drawings. I would make things whenever I had a spare moment with my sewing machine. But it was never enough- I had more ideas than I had time.
After having an emergency back surgery that forced me to stop working for several months, then a second surgery that kept me home even longer, I started thinking seriously about making Opposite of Far a reality. I took the leap by opening my Etsy shop then applying for a few craft shows. Before I knew it, Opposite of Far was real & I was living my dream!
Opposite of Far started out as a business based on handmade plush dolls and animals. I created a fox and owl mask as accessories for the dolls, then added child sized masks to match the dolls. After 3 days of being posted, I realized the masks were going to be a huge hit for children and adults too! Since then I have expanded my designs from 2 (the fox and owl) to over 50! The plush dolls and animals have stepped out of the spotlight, but I do still make time for custom orders! My true passion is making masks- who knew?! I love designing new styles, seeing kids and adults try them on and hearing stories about where the masks go when they leave my studio!
I'm enjoying Opposite of Far more than I ever imagined I could enjoy a job! I'm so excited to see where we'll go next!
