Soap Is To The Body What Laughter Is To The Soul

How Shabby Little Market was born, where to begin ;)

As young girl, I Robyn Shackleton have always enjoyed exploring my creative side while dabbling in sewing, painting, simple body care product making, crocheting, decorating, you name it!! I followed suit right out of High School to become a Journeyman Hair Stylist, 2200hr. Registered Massage Therapist, Nail Technician & Sugaring Practitioner, wasting no time at all!

While in school to become a Hair Stylist, one of our projects was to design a salon from top to bottom. Having grown up in Lacombe Alberta Canada, I naturally chose for my dream salon to be located in a Historical building on main street Lacombe. Little did my wildest imagination ever think that I would actually. Just a few short years later from the time I designed this dream salon, I actually ended up purchasing a business in an almost 100yr old historical building on main street Lacombe and set it up to continue all my training in! My “dream” salon became my DREAM SALON!!! I purchased a business that at the time was hand crafting natural body care right on site and was called Latherup Canada. I right away added my mark on the business and built it from the bottom up to become a thriving Salon & Spa that I renamed Orchid Rain Salon ‘N’ Spa 5yrs in to owning. I continued to grow the business and not without staff, great clientele, family and friend support for a whooping 10yrs. Even with the name change I continued to handcraft the Latherup Canada body care line, along with adding my own product line following suit and called it Orchid Rain as well. We were nominated & won the Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce 2009 Rookie Business of the year. I handcrafted & donated 600 bars of soap to the Canadian Troops in Afghanistan in 2008 as well and became one of the first green salons in Canada; very proud, treasured moments in deed xo.

I officially decided coming up on year 10 of owning the Salon & Spa to let my dream salon go from my hands, but to continue to grow in the hands & heart of another xo I made this decision finally after battling back and forth with myself, but the timing just felt right. This decision was made to be the best mommy and wife I can be. In the midst of my plans to sell my heart continued to desire not wanting to give up making natural body care, because I truly feel that it really is who I am! I am an all things natural kinda girl and feel that the daily interaction of chemicals & societies “quick fixes” is alarming!

Shabby Little Market was born, because of my vast desire to continue what I started with the salon but on a smaller, simpler, family oriented scale. Shabby Little Market was born to merge my existing two products lines together but revamped and rebranded. In my new age cute market you will expect to see apothecary made with only the purest, most healthy, locally sourced, well researched ingredients, along with sustainable and some even plantable packaging too. Some of our ingredients in our apothecary soap include real puree fruit & veggie juices, tea, coffee, wine, beer, milk & even home brewed kombucha. Pretty neat hey & I hope you enjoy 🙂
