I can't even put into words how much I love this angel that Harry made. I have many other pieces that he has made and other angels too,and they are ALL truly divine!!

About

Oscarcrow Jewelry,Ceramics and Antiques

After retiring from teaching school I began to recreate my first working career as a jeweler. I love working in metal and stones.
Asked to describe me as an artist I would reply Maker, learner, curious, teacher, giver, explorer of eclectic and esoteric realms, talisman maker. Metal beater. Transformer. That last word seems the most important, to transform materials into objects of curiosity.
I now work in ceramics as much as jewelry and love to share the vintage finds with other artists and creators.
The antique items which are the bulk of my offerings are found in Germany. They are excavated from the disposal site of now defunct potteries that made dolls in the 18th and 19th centuries. Almost all have flaws and are often still covered with some of the dirt they were buried in. They are mostly porcelain. I often make molds from the originals. I then reproduce them and add new and sometimes surprising elements to the original forms.
My preferred ceramic material is Raku
RAKU is a very unpredictable medium and is affected by many variables. The effects achieved with RAKU glazes may not always be the same. Even after you have done RAKU for a long time you will see that it is almost impossible to have complete control over the result or consistent glaze effect if you are using the glaze from the same jar. However, this is a spontaneous technique and all the varied effects are usually acceptable. Tong marks and other marks from reduction material is considered a characteristic of RAKU, not a defect.

My education was in fine art and photography with an emphasis in 3d and ceramics. I worked as a jeweler, photo studio and lab services and finally as a school teacher. I am retired to the studio where I create everyday.
