About FictitiousArchive

Sales 229
On Etsy since 2007

Tired of scientists having all the fun.

Fictitious Archive was started due to my interest in making imaginary species such as: mosses, lichens, and fungi and then naming and cataloging them because I was tired of the scientists having all the fun. Now, I mainly make things that are either inspired by my natural surroundings such as the oft overlooked and previously mentioned mosses, lichens, fungi, but also ferns and the dozens of houseplants that surround me everyday. Oh, and I’m also from a desert-y region of Southern California, so that makes it’s way into my work as well.

I'm Summer and I'm tired of the scientists having all the fun. I make things inspired by the oft overlooked in the rainy half of Oregon in which I live (ex. fungi, mosses, lichens, ferns), my houseplants, books, and the desert in which I grew up.

After years of stitching and needle felting away (under the name Ottoman), I started to realize that the little moss and lichen species I was making started to develop personalities; meaning that I noticed that I was stitching certain colors in certain ways. Some lichen liked to form clumps, others "grew" in a linear manner. Some had large fruiting bodies, others tiny.

That changed everything.

I "closed" my shop.

Then I started documenting, in the form of stitching, each species and its growth habit. I also realized that lichen and moss grow together in the wild, so too they will be together in my work.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. It goes much deeper than that.

Welcome to my Fictitious Archive.

Returns and exchanges
First and foremost, I want you to be happy with what you order! In order to help insure that you're happy with your purchase from my shop, I describe my items in a very detailed manner to provide a copious amount information to you, the buyer, and I make huge strides to make sure that each piece I make is top-notch; therefore I have a limited return policy.

Please contact me before buying if you have any questions to avoid any future issues; I'd love to answer any questions you have.

I allow returns if contacted within three days of an item(s) being received IF I totally blow it and there is a defect or I send the incorrect item. However, I take great care (one of the bonuses of being anal-retentive) in making sure my items are constructed well, selected for shipping properly, and packaged securely. The returned item must be returned within two weeks of your having received the item (for international orders, this will be extended and discussed via contact). in same condition it was received. Since this is my error, I will pay for shipping, of course.

If you receive your item and it's simply not what you want, please contact me within three days of receiving your item, and we can work out an exchange. Again, I would like the item in my possession within two weeks of it having been delivered to you (international orders...longer of course!) and in it's original condition. The buyer is responsible for shipping in this instance and a $3 restocking fee (which includes Etsy charges). For an exchange, the customer can either immediately choose another item of equal value, or store credit can be given for this shop only...good for six months.

If your item(s) is lost or damaged during transit, contact me immediately so that we can work on a solution (this may require photo documentation of damaged pieces)! However, please also take up lost items with your postal carrier. Also, contact me if you would like to purchase insurance on an item(s).

If you send an item back without first contacting me, your return will be void.

Sorry, all custom sales are final.

If an item is returned to me via the postal service for whatever reason (ex. you do not pick the piece up from the post office) and it has been more than 60 days from the date of purchase, I cannot refund your money. I will attempt to contact you to re-ship (and an additional shipping fee will be charged), if I do not receive a reply, the transaction will be canceled and I reserve the right to re-list the item.
I accept payments through PayPal (which includes credit cards); this means you can pay with your PayPal account, debit, or credit card. PayPal is safe and secure and sellers will not see your financial info.

Please pay for your item(s) at checkout. If I do not receive payment or contact within three days (excluding weekends) of your purchase, I will cancel the sale (I will attempt to contact you first). I reserve the right to re-list that item(s).
I will send you an email to acknowledge your purchase and confirm your address (if it is different than your PayPal address). I will be totally anxious for you to receive your item(s) as much as you are, but I will be sure to confirm payment before doing so. If the ship-to address is incorrect in my email, please contact me immediately!

If you are confused about combined shipping, don't worry, Etsy's shopping cart system will automatically do it for you when you order from my shop if the purchases are completed in the same transaction. Also, you can purchase from different sellers using the same cart!

I love to recycle packaging and I use it when ever possible. This not only helps save the environment, but helps save you money because new packaging costs money. However, I only use packaging that is exceedingly clean and I make every effort to make your purchase a lovely gift to open.

US - Your item(s) will be sent using USPS Priority.

International - Your item(s) will be shipped via First Class International. Also please note what your country's import restrictions are from the US and understand that I am not responsible for any customs fees, duty fees, or applicable taxes on international purchases you might incur.
Additional policies and FAQs
All items are made in a smoke-free environment. I have a kitty named Milk...she is sometimes inside.

If you have any questions, please contact me; I will be happy to answer your question(s) in a prompt manner.

If you are sending your purchase as a gift, let me know and I can send a note!

If you like something in my shop, but would like a different size, please contact me and I will work with you to create a custom listing, if possible. The size and type of item will determine how long it will take and if the price will be different than the original listing. Also, if you see an item that I have sold that is not currently listed in my shop, let me know! It may be possible that I can work on a reserved listing for you! Items of a more custom nature will require more of a conversation and will be discussed on a case-by-case basis; however, please do feel free to ask! I have added new items to my shop because of clever customers!
