This is such a cute item! Turn around time was pretty quick too! This is a good quality item and my friend loved it for her new baby's room.

I used this adorable fabric I picked up in Waikiki several years ago on some redwood surfboards. Aloha! And... it's READY to SHIP!
Have some inventory from a craft fair on hand and will be adding items that will be READY TO SHIP, including this cute vintage fireman themed baby mobile.
Have a second baby on the way and want to coordinate baby's mobile with another? I can do that! Here's a star mobile that will look great in the same room as one of my baseball mobiles.

Mobilizing My Joy of Woodworking

Becoming a work-at-home-mom has given me the amazing opportunity to pursue crafting and creativity as a business. After the birth of my first son in 2003, I experimented with silk-screening my original designs on fabric to sew into pillows, baby bibs and quilts. Later I developed felt baby shoes, which I began selling at craft fairs and in my Etsy shop (then called Out of the Box). Shortly after the birth of my second son in 2007, I was invited to be a guest crafter on The Martha Stewart Show, where I shared my patterns and techniques for sewing baby shoes and bibs.

One project led to another and then another, and before I knew it, I found myself in the wonderful niche of crafting wooden baby mobiles. Today, I enjoy coordinating with customers to create the perfect nursery mobile. Displaying vibrant colors and intriguing designs as they rotate, my mobiles are whimsical pieces of hanging artwork that delight babies, children and grown-ups alike. Made from solid wood, Flying Tree mobiles are keepsakes that will be treasured long after baby is out of the crib.

My surfboard mobiles bring my work full circle. Born, raised and now residing in the small town of Vista, California (just north of San Diego), I have always been so inspired and influenced by surf and beach culture. (My Dad, at the very young age of 65, still surfs every Saturday and Sunday morning!) I’m very connected to the beach and ocean as well as the desert and sierras. I hope to continue finding ways to share my appreciation of this incredible environment through my hanging wooden mobiles.

Turning doodles into hanging wooden art is a lovely way to spend my time when I'm not chasing my little boys on the beach.

Frequently asked questions

How do I hang my baby mobile?

Unless specified otherwise when ordered, mobiles are strung to be hung from the ceiling: About 4 to 5 feet long (from ceiling to bottom of mobile). I will provide a white cup hook to screw into your ceiling and additional plastic line in the event of above average ceiling heights.

The included cup hook has a capacity of 10 pounds and is sufficient, but for a more secure installation I suggest purchasing a ceiling hook with anchor:

What if I want to hang my mobile from a crib attachment?

If you would prefer to hang this mobile from a crib mobile attachment, please select "Hang from Crib" under "Hanging Length". (IF THIS OPTION IS NOT PROVIDED: This is one of my larger mobiles that is best hung from the ceiling.)

The mobile will be strung to hang no longer than 18-inches. Please note: the crib attachment clamp is not included in the price of the mobile. Use the following link to purchase separately OR (when available) select the hanging length option "Crib WITH Attachment".

Where can I see more photos of mobiles hung in a nursery?

Use the link below to see a gallery of customer photos with mobiles in their nurseries:

What kind of wood do you use?

Pieces for Flying Tree mobiles are cut from solid wood (mostly poplar and pine, unless otherwise noted) - meaning no plywood or composite pieces containing harsh glues or chemicals. Thickness varies from 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch depending on availability.

How do I clean the mobile?

Made of durable wood, Flying Tree mobiles can be easily dusted (as opposed to paper or fabric mobiles) and will continue to look every bit as wonderful as the day they were hung for years to come.

How heavy is the mobile?

Most mobiles weigh between 1-1/2 to 2 pounds, depending on the style.

Can you tell me how you make these wooden mobiles?

I personally create each component of Flying Tree mobiles with care in my home studio. I sand and shape each piece of wood individually before adding illustrations (printed onto transfer paper), fabric or paper. Mobile pieces are then sealed with a high gloss varnish. Plastic monofilament is knotted to metal eyelets that have been screwed into each piece, making all connections extra secure.

Do they come with a spinning mechanism?

Flying Tree mobiles tend to move in even the slightest breeze. They do not come with mechanisms for spinning, but even in the act of photographing the mobiles I find it extremely difficult to make them be still! I think you'll enjoy their soft and natural movement as much as I do.

When will I get my order?

This mobile is MADE TO ORDER. Your order will ship THREE WEEKS after date of purchase. I try to get orders out as soon as I can - some months are busier than others. If you have a specific date you need your order by, please let me know and I will confirm whether or not I can provide expedited production.
