Camdenton, Missouri | 705 Sales

Announcement    The artist who created these pieces, my husband Bill Merritt, died on Mar 4, 2020. Every piece that he had created and put a bit of himself into is now listed in this shop. No more pieces will be created or added here. Below is our original shop statement. -- Terrie Merritt

Copper in my items will patina naturally. It is not coated. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation. All glass is rescued and most of the copper is recycled as well. I only use soft white rubber stoppers because they seal out the air better than other stoppers on the market, and sealing out the air is the secret to having a bottle-style feeder that holds in the nectar without it just dripping out everywhere. That is why feeders with black or red stoppers always leak.

Each piece comes with tips for using and caring for the piece.

Juried Artist, Best of Missouri Hands; Member Columbia (MO) Art League. Artisan-participant in the annual National Harvest Festival at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO.

Check out our website at www.ozarklake.net/gallery for pictures and videos of our items in use by the birds.

ATTENTION GIFT SHOPPERS: I will enclose a gift card and ship Priority Mail Insured to your gift recipient. If you want something special made, just contact me!

Thanks for checking out Bill's work!

About Ozarklake

Sales 705
On Etsy since 2007

It all began with a lady who was nuts about hummingbirds.

Once upon a time there was a lady who was absolutely nuts about the little buzzing visitors that came each summer to her yard. She collected everything hummingbird as well - every type of knickknack, magnet, figurine, painting, clock, tray, key holder. If it had a hummingbird on it, she added it to her collection. Then that lady met a gentleman who had only a passing interest in hummingbirds. Oops! He caught the bug!

Sadly, on Mar. 4, 2020, we lost the creative mind and soul that was Ozarklake Copper Garden Art. What is for sale in our shop is the last of the art he created. The following is his story:

Bill spent over 40 years in Naval aviation and electronics. Formerly a draftsman and sometime sketch artist, after retirement Bill was led to a functional craft that is not only different but serves a purpose and gives new life to reclaimed copper and glass. Many years as a professional wireman provide the skills to bend, form, and manipulate various and multiple gauges of copper wire, from very thin to tubing size, around rescued glass containers of all shapes and sizes. His imagination provides the art. Terrie helps with production and handles the business-side of things.

There is no preconception as each piece takes on a life of its own in his hands. Each glass container is individually surrounded with a free-form frame of reclaimed copper wire in various gauges. Each individual signature copper “leaf” used on his pieces is also formed by hand. Joints are soldered, copper and/or glass accents are added, and functional art is created. Each piece is one-of-a-kind. He brags that he has never made two alike!

Tube-style feeders are also popular - both with humans and hummers. Small individual repurposed floral tubes help to insure that the nectar is fresh because of the small volume. Hummers dip into the tubes just like they dip into flowers! Our Hummingbird Onesie attaches to a window to bring the birds up close and personal, or try our Hummingbird Feeder Wand. Our Bully Pulpit can be placed near a feeder to provide a swinging seat for the bully of the bunch to guard his food source.

Jelly/fruit feeders are perfect for all the fruit-eating birds, especially the bright and musical orioles. Old sherbet cups, ashtrays, small bowls, glass juicers, and other suitable pieces hold the jelly while the copper art includes a spike to hold an orange or apple half. These are great for offering meal worms, too.

Our copper art hanging dishes are suitable for bird baths, seed feeders, or even indoor decor. They can also be filled appropriately for butterflies.

Helpful tips and instructions are provided with each piece.

All items we make have been bird-tested and approved! We use ONLY soft white rubbers stoppers on our hummingbird feeders. When wetted before insertion, these stoppers will NOT constantly drip as the black rubber stoppers do.

We can't get a video to upload to Etsy, but you can see videos here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtDWigKbfORA8HQUiySIMMg

We sincerely thank you for visiting our shop. Every type of item we make has been bird-tested and bird-approved. Most hummingbirds are migrant and visit North America in the warmer seasons. Unlike seed-eating birds, hummingbirds must have a reason to visit you. That reason is food. Hummers are all about eating and must eat every 15-20 minutes throughout the day. Providing fresh nectar will place you on their "must visit" list. But there is NOTHING that says a feeder must be red, nor should red nectar be used. Our philosophy regarding Nature is "First do no harm". Hummingbirds are fascinating little creatures and we encourage you to learn more about them at www.hummingbirds.net. Our copper garden art will look good in your garden, on your patio or porch, or anywhere in your yard. Take a look around! Note that we use only soft white stoppers in our bottle-style feeders. Using the included instructions, our feeders do NOT drip like those that use black or colored stoppers. We have more than 12 years experience at this; we know what we're doing. Check our photos and videos at www.ozarklake.net/gallery. The birds LIKE what we're doing.
