Paper Schmaper, uno studio di design e stampa di St. Louis, ha iniziato nel 2008 con la necessità di allontanarsi dal computer e tornare alle radici della tipografia e della stampa. Nella necessità di sporcarmi le mani, una nuova ispirazione trovata dietro il computer e oltre non è emersa. Questo apprezzamento per la stampa tipografica superava di gran lunga tutto ciò che si poteva leggere in un libro.
Iniziando restaurando una Golding Pearl n. 1 del 1800, un tagliacarte Paragon del 1881 e poi passando a una Golding Pearl n. 11 del 1911, ho adottato ufficialmente oltre 1.300 libbre di ghisa. Queste presse mi hanno insegnato tanto sulla pazienza, la dedizione e l'artigianalità. Purtroppo, ho dovuto separarmi dalle Perle per far crescere il business. Nel 2015, ho acquistato la pressa dei miei sogni - un mulino a vento heidelberg del 1950 che ho chiamato Ludwig - e ho trasformato il nostro garage per auto 1 in un vero e proprio studio.

Paper Schmaper, a St. Louis Design & Letterpress Studio, started in 2008 with a need to get away from the computer and back to the roots of typography & printmaking. In the necessity to get my hands dirty, a new found inspiration behind the computer and beyond unsurfaced. This appreciation for letterpress far surpassed anything that could be read in a book.
Beginning by restoring an 1800’s Golding Pearl No. 1, an 1881 Paragon paper cutter and then moving on to a 1911 Golding Pearl No. 11, I officially adopted over 1,300 lbs of cast iron. These presses taught me so much about patience, dedication, and craftsmanship. Sadly, I had to part with the Pearls in order to grow the business. In 2015, I purchased my dream press – a 1950’s Heidelberg Windmill that I named Ludwig- and turned our 1 car garage into a proper studio.
