Current Tangent: Hand Painted Signage

Every idea starts on paper, and eventually goes somewhere... a card, a sign, invitation, right now, the current kick is Signage. I love my job as creator, designer, artist and producer of many different products in the shop and embrace that my brain is always looking for new mediums and concepts to work on.

I work first with a pencil and paper, to sketch out the idea for the product. Then good things happen to the sketch, like paint, stain, print, to make them into a final product. My husband cuts, sands, stains, and then production. The process is the best part for me, and I look forward to new ideas and challenges!

Welcome to Paper Tangent! There is something special about a hand painted sign and your guests or clients will feel the personal difference. These signs and paper products are custom made from beginning to end, with hand sketched proofs, then hand painted onto hand picked, custom cut wood. I love love love what I do and hope you enjoy the process of working with me to create the perfect sign for your event. Please take a moment to read our Shop Policies if you intend on placing an order. If you purchase a listing, you agree that you have read all policies.

PARTIAL OR FULL REFUNDS: Refunds are rare and are determined on a case by case basis. Ultimately due to the custom nature, time, material & shipping costs, most items cannot be refunded or exchanged. Please contact me if you have any concerns and I will do my best to address your issue. Again, super super rare.

ARTWORK APPROVAL: Customers are responsible for final approval of the proof before artwork begins. Once approved, we are not responsible for unseen spelling errors, even if it was my fault! Yikes!

COLOR: Colors vary from monitor to monitor, so it is impossible for me to guarantee the exact color you see on your computer screen, but we have a great eye and use wise judgement for colors. Papertangent does have the "final" say on exact color choices, and final artwork, and due to the nature of the materials, there may be a need for small changes. It's artwork, so thats where the fun is.

WOOD : Due to the natural characteristics of each wood panel, variation in color, figure, and other characteristics can occur. Wood will exhibit individual features and character marks. No two signs or grains will be alike, which makes each sign unique. Some are more grain, less grain, etc.

DAMAGES: Yikes! This is rare! Contact us at your earliest convenience so we can resolve your issue.

CURRENT LEAD TIME (for Hand Painted Signs):
3 months recommended to get on the waitlist but 30 days required. Contact me for specific ship dates. Booking now for 2018/19.

Please contact us as soon as you know you would like to purchase a sign. We only book a few clients per month to ensure high quality and timely production. This means we book months in advance. We look forward to hearing from you!

EARLY DEPOSIT:
We tend to book fast. If you would like to reserve a spot in the production calendar months in advance, you may provide $90 deposit. This deposit is deducted from your final invoice total.

PLACING YOUR ORDER:
- Estimate Approval: Once you review and approve the estimate, we create an Etsy listing for you to purchase the deposit to confirm the signs for the sketch phase.
- Purchase the Listing: Your timeline is not firm until payment is received. We recommend you place your order as soon as you know you want the sign(s) made.
- Final Balance: Final balance and shipping, after all artwork is confirmed for production will be billed after you approved the sketches for artwork production.

TEXT:
- After you place your order, please confirm your Custom Text. We will chat about your timeline based on your ship date/wedding date.
- Food and Beverage Signs (Menus, Cocktail Signs, Dessert Signs, etc): It is expected that your Food and Beverage text/verbiage may take a bit longer to confirm as you work with your caterer or baker to finalize ingredients. Please always confirm the text with your planner or caterer before submitting.

SKETCHES and PROOFS:
- Text is approved: Please allow time for us to complete this custom sketch for you, it is seriously the most fun and exciting part of the process and also takes the MOST time, with research, brainstorming and lots of re-working until we think it’s just right.
- Proof Timing - Sketches are provided between now and the ship date. Sometimes the sketch (or large multiple-sign orders) may take a bit longer, hang in there with us! We welcome your emails if you would like to check in on your sketch status.

APPROVAL :
- Proof Phase 1 - You will have the opportunity to review the sketch carefully for errors. Please respond with any changes you may have.
- Proof Phase 2 - This is the final proof.
- Once approved - Prior to artwork approval, we encourage you to double & triple check your order's spelling, dates, and for any other errors. Papertangent is not responsible for unseen spelling errors on proofs approved by you, even if the fault of PaperTangent. Check and double check!

PHOTOS: We may take photos of the process from beginning to end, posting snap shots on social media sites (INSTAGRAM: PAPERTANGENT) or reuse in our Etsy shop. Feel free to provide your handle to me so we can tag you!

PRODUCTION:
- Approved Sketches: Once sketches are approved we go into production. Woo hoo!!!
- Schedule: We schedule your order for actual artwork production very close to your scheduled delivery/ship date.
- Timing: We rarely send out orders ahead of schedule, unless requested. Please read the original details of your order with details about your timeline, and shoot me a message for updates on your order and we are happy to provide.
- Process: Hand cutting, sanding, prepping and priming, staining and smoothing, lettering, painting, accenting and finishing, this is where the magic happens! We typically have anywhere from 15-40 clients at a time, some small orders, and some large, some personal and some corporate or small business, some local DC + VA and of course Etsy. We arrange prep and production based on individual client timelines. Thank you for your flexibility.
Shipping
SHIPPING METHOD:
- Ground Service with tracking, typically via FedEx
- Shipping insurance is included up to $50 (USPS) and $100 (+ FedEx ). Additional Shipping Insurance is available upon request. This means if they loose or damage your order, they will be able to refund you up to the $50/$100 for your order. Additional insurance means someone has to be at the shipping address to sign for the package. I am happy to provide the additional insurance just note signature is required at the door.
- Want to ship using your FedEx or UPS account, lets chat specifics.

YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS:
- We typically confirm the address before we ship, but keep us up to date on the address you want your order shipped to (a venue, planner, or family/friend)
- Changes to your Address: Please provide your shipping address if it has changed, and remind us. Etsy does not allow us to change your address in the system, but we can mark it in our notes and double check with you before shipment.
- Destination Weddings: I offer to ship directly to your venue if you have a destination wedding and want to save on luggage space! It may incur a larger ship price tag and we will need at least 3 weeks out if it’s an island wedding or 4 weeks actual ship time for weddings outside of the U.S. Lets chat about what your venue allows.

SIGNING for your PACKAGE:
- Signature on packages is not required unless your package has additional insurance.
- If you want to SIGN for the package due to your shipping location, please let us know, this is really important, otherwise UPS will leave the package on your step/door/with front desk, etc.
- Items returned for an incorrect address will require additional postage paid by the buyer, and we are not responsible for the ship in transit time, damage, loss, although this is extremely rare.

SHIPPING UPGRADES: Last minute orders may be paying rush shipping fees. We will discuss this with you ahead of time.

TIMELINE:
- Please provide your requested in-hand date before you purchase and we will discuss when your order will ship.
- Rush orders are rare but not impossible. Expect to pay 50% in addition to the price listed. Rush orders are completed on my nights and weekends. You know how that goes!

POST-SHIPMENT: We take photos of most orders for insurance and portfolio purposes. Once your package is shipped, Papertangent is no longer held responsible for your order, as courier transit may be unpredictable. This is extremely rare, but if you did not receive your order please contact us and also consult your carrier. We will do everything we can to help you locate your package using the tracking number, however this issue is ultimately out of our control. eek! If your order has arrived damaged, contact us immediately so we can discuss the next steps! There may be time to re-complete your order. We are not responsible for any shipping damages, but we want to assist you as best we can.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Expect an increased timeline and allow for more ship time. Hand painted wooden signs are typically packaged in large boxes, and the larger the box the more expensive international shipping is. If you intend to ship international be prepared for a heavy price tag and possible additional customs charges and delayed shipping times. I suggest we finish your sign 2 months prior to your event date.

PO BOXES: No can do! I cannot deliver to a PO Box, so lets chat about a safe place to ship your sign, a friend, relative, local UPS or FedEx location, wedding planner, etc.

FEEDBACK: We love to hear feedback because it helps our company grow and provide better service. If you are over the moon about your order, we want everyone to know, so please leave feedback about your order in our review section! If you are not over the moon, shoot us a message, and we would love to chat with you about how we can learn from our mistake or fix any error. Every piece I send out has a lot of passion behind it. I LOVE my job!

------------------- FAQ’s for Custom Hand Painted Signs ----------------------

::::::: DO YOU OFFER A DISCOUNT? ::::::::: Nope! This is hand painted custom artwork. Nuf said.

:::::::: WE CREATE + PRODUCE FULL TIME :::::::: My husband and I create hand painted signs full time, and work as efficiently as possible to keep costs down, but these are hand painted, hand crafted, custom pieces, so we charge accordingly to cover the time, Etsy fees, credit cards fees, material paint/wood/frame costs, overhead, taxes, the list goes on, etc. We will provide a price to you in the estimate phase of the order.

ADDING or REDUCING order after payment:
- Adding to your Order: We schedule our sketch, proof, prep + production time based on your in-hand date. Any additional signs you may need may be able to be accommodated within that time frame, so check with us and we will see what we can do!
• Reducing your order: This is a tough one. It depends on the item and it’s complexity, and how much cost has been put into that particular item already (sketches, frame, materials, etc) and how much lead time we have on the change. Let us know what you need and we can talk about a solution. Please read our shops Refund Policies.

RUSH ORDERS:
It depends on the scope of your request (size, qty, text amount and design time, etc). Please send your request and in-hand date, and we will look at the calendar. Rush fee's will be assessed, and are typically 50% in addition of the entire order price. A rush order means we are fully booked within your needed timeframe, and we will need to spend additional time on nights/weekends to accommodate your order. Your order may be shipped very close to your event date, and rush shipping may be assessed. We will chat about all of this ahead of time! Rush orders NEED 30 DAYS in advance minimum. Thank you!

SKETCH RE-DO:
- Before the Sketch: We encourage you to provide as much information to us as possible before the sketch proof phase of your sign, so we can discuss your style and andy design requirements you may have. But, sometimes circumstances change, and a sketch needs to be redone.
- Re-Do: No worries! An additional artwork fee will be assessed for a total sketch re-do. $125 minimum fee.
- Timing for a Re-Sketch: Sketch times vary depending on the complexity of the sketch. Please note that the re-sketch will need to be scheduled in our calendar, and may effect your timeline for production and shipment. Thank you for your flexibility.
- Edits to a sketch are totally different. This is included in your order, and in fact a very important part of the process.
