About

Where Our Obsession Came From

What started our obsession (yes it is now an obsession)? We both love Halloween, and both love getting dressed up. We have always tried to do a “couple” costume that was unique but somehow joint. In order for us to have something that fit well (because let’s be honest most costumes in a package do not fit or look sturdy.), I would have to make it.

We both could agree on pirates. That Halloween was such a hit with the kids. It was so much fun to be dressed up in something that was comfortable, and what we wanted. We also agreed at that time that because we spent so much time prepping for this that we would wear this again another year at least.

The following year we added some pieces to the costume to make them better, and all of a sudden it was, what’s next, what’s next.

It wasn't long we were starting to want to do this more than once a year. In 2012 we went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. I made a few new pieces and we went all dressed up. It was even better being dressed up! It really got you in character and you felt like you were really in that time period.

We knew we would have fun running around looking at all the artisans. I didn’t know how much of a sewing bug I had until we were looking at all the pieces and thinking what can I do next. People stopped us to ask where we got some of our pieces. We felt drunk with adrenaline about how people gushed over the work we had put so many hours into.

Based on the interactions and with the encouragement of my husband we opened the store in 2013. That year ended up being a big year of changes for us. We put a few things on the site in the beginning of the year but by April we were packing up our lives to start over a couple hours south. The store took a back seat, but we didn’t stop with the costuming. In 2013, we went to six different festivals. I made some more pieces and even my first corset.

Store closed for a couple of years as things do when life overwhelms. Our passion to keep making pieces to enjoy never went away and feel like we are movie stars when we are out there at these festivals is a drug. Funny how I really don’t like making any real clothes. I would just rather work on garb. Husband even started getting into working during the latest hiatus.

So there it is… our obsession. Which by the way is beyond clothing. So until we sail again.
