About JacintaBunnell

Sales 684
On Etsy since 2007

I have markers in my lunchbox. At all times.

If you buy coloring books from my etsy shop, it means you are directly supporting the authors/artists and not spending your money at a big box store or an online mega-mall. That is one thing you should feel TERRIFIC about today! You might pay a little more here than at an online book retailer, but you should know that you are helping an independent artist put food on her table and a sparkle in her eyes.

Since 2001, Jacinta Bunnell has been creating coloring books with Irit Reinheimer, Julie Novak, Leela Corman and Nathaniel Kusinitz which offer a way for people of all ages to look at stereotypes and oppression. If you can get people to laugh at themselves and at cultural expectations, their hearts will be more open to looking at difficult issues. Once you have opened someone's heart with a joke, a shared smile or a good laugh, you are better able to do the hard work of liberation together. We hope that these coloring books can offer a critique of children's media and the way it introduces us to ideas whose influences we often take for granted throughout our lives. If you do not see yourself in print anywhere, how do you know you are not the only one that thinks, acts and feels as you?

From this query sprung 5 coloring books including Sometimes the Spoon Runs Away With Another Spoon and Girls Are Not Chicks. Jacinta has presented the work of these coloring books at Vassar College, Bard College, Sarah Lawrence College, The 519 Centre, Girls' Leadership Worldwide, Bluestockings Bookstore, Zine Archive & Publishing Project, In Other Words Bookstore, Reimagining Girlhood Conference, True Colors Conference and Common Threads Conference, leading people of all ages in the creation of anti-bias media.

Whether it is creating coloring books for a gender-radiant world, designing seed packets for the Hudson Valley Seed Library, performing overhead projection shows for Neko Case, art directing music videos for Grammy-nominated Elizabeth Mitchell, or designing album art for Grammy-winning Dean Jones, Jacinta’s art and collaborations touch upon a desire in us to be more closely connected to the tenderness that resides in our hearts. Jacinta is a student of Lynda Barry and she learned to draw from children. Her visual art is inspired by miniature people and toys, her paintings are constructed primarily from recycled materials. Jacinta has a huge stash of patterned, quirky, superbly alive paper which she has been collecting since childhood. Among the multifarious pieces are: torn wrappings from Groundhog Day celebrations, colored engravings from encyclopedias for babies, pictures of toads, and concerned citizen fliers. Jacinta’s artwork has been shown at Allegheny College Art Galleries, KMOCA, Woodstock Artists Association & Museum, Columbia College Chicago, Starhouse Gallery, TeamLove Ravenhouse Gallery, and Roos Arts. She has toured the U.S. and Canada with The Sparkle Kids Action Network, The Gadabout Film Fest, Neko Case, DavEnd, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Julie Novak, and Michael Truckpile.
