About

Paula's Doll House Wonderland

I'm a one woman show, creating and designing fantastical characters from my whimsical imagination... An imagination that I used prolifically as a child to create my own wonderland. Though at that time my wonderland looked like mud pies decorated with wildflowers and daisy chains served as party snacks to my Raggedy Anne doll and some stick people....

I'm often asked how long it takes for me create a doll... Well, really, I never count the hours but I will say that it has taken me my whole lifetime to be creating the figures I am creating at the moment.

Naturally I learned to sew young, being a child of the 70's and wanting nice but unique clothing as a preteen and teen in the 80's, I made my own tops and even bartered and sold some tops to schoolmates. And there was Art classes in High school where I fell in love with drawing, painting, sculpting and screen-printing and so much more. Right after high school I married and three beautiful babies came along; my art was put aside but my sewing skills were put to use dressing two baby girls in the finest ruffles and lace, and a baby boy in the cutest of the cute.

I began designing figures when the kids were older, so I could use my artistic abilities in a new way. I love texture so fabrics were my natural choice for a base medium (painters paint on a cloth canvas). I paint/draw the faces and features on all of my dolls. I love costuming the figures in elaborate Victorian, Edwardian, Medieval mixed eras and of course woodland wear. I draw my ideas from the depths of Shakespeare, Folklore & Fairytale, Nursery Rhyme, and children's storybooks; of which I have a good sized library.

Yes, I've been creating my entire life to have gotten to this point in my artistry. And I'm forever learning more so that I can fine tune my skills. Life has never been boring.

I've been designing a fairy wonderland since 1998... After running my own brick and mortar shop for a while, I've simplified by bringing it all back home. I now dream, design and create in my magical studio almost 24/7 and I'm in love with working.

Welcome to Paula's Doll House,
If there's anything I can do or any questions I may answer about items in my shop.... then ask away. I'll do my best to help.

I'm usually in the studio with my nose buried in heaps of fabrics, cutting away, sewing away or painting/stuffing/wiring/crownmaking or ANYTHING! So I will do my darnedest to get back to you within 24 hours....

Please do enjoy your visit, sit a spell, have a hot cuppa something chocolaty-coffee'y, and come back soon because I'm always adding to the treasures.
